Looking for any info on my Great Grandfather Joseph White. According to his headstone he was a Private, "Priv. 24th Battn C.E.F.". Unfortunately that is the only information on this that I can find, no regimental number or anything.

Joseph White
Birth 1883 in Ramsey, St Marys, Huntingdonshire, England
Death 3 Aug 1960 in Quebec, Canada (buried in Coaticook, Quebec)
Emigrated to Canada sometime between 1911-1919
is believed to have served for Britain as well

Hi and thank you.

I've gone through all 64 Joseph Whites on that database and none are a match. Although there are probably a dozen of them that there is no file or other info attached so he is probably one of those. Know if there is a way of seeing those missing files?

What you see in the database is only the attestation papers. Some files are online but not that many. To view the files with no details, then you need to order them through Library and Archives Canada or attend yourself to view them and look for him or hire someone to do it for you.

Thank you very much, I will look into that!

Happen to know of any ways to search his British military records? I'm not having any luck on this site.

The British WWI military records were partially destroyed during WWII. I believe about 40% survived. You can search for him in the UK collection. Check him in the UK WWI service files and the WWI Medal Index cards.

Thank you kindly! I've tried those UK searches here, with no luck though.
