Can anyone provide me with some info about the Walsh surname on the Northern Peninsula. My great, great great grandmother was Alice Walsh, possibly from Flowers Cove. She married Christopher Mahar (maher), approx the mid 1800s. I can't seem to find any information on the surname beyond this point, or figure out who her parents were.

Any info would be appreciated!

I don't have any definitive records. I estimate the time of birth to be someonewhere in the late 1850s to 1860s. This is estimated based on her son's birth in 1883. All I know that she was a Walsh and that she married Christopher Mahar. Family members seem to think that she was born in Flower's Cove.

I don't know where Flowers Cove is, but have a family of Walshes in Northern Bay, in and around Job's Cove. Some of their births and marriages are listed on the Newfoundland's Grand Bank's Webpage. Look under the listing for Vital Statistics for Corpus Christi listings. Information can also be found under the heading of Church Records. Look in the Church of the Assumption records. You may be able to find some Walshes there.

I'm not sure if Walsh is the surname or her married name, but I came across an Anastasia Walsh b. about the same time in Daniel's Harbour. Looks like she married a House. Not sure if this is info that you already have, it's located on the Rumbolt website, here is the link:

Ref the web page you gave me. The descendents of Anastashia Walsh do not include Freeman House. She and James House add a son name Freeman House. He was born after Deborah Day House. This is my g grandfather.
