I am looking for the desendents of Mark Kelly and Jane Hamilton. Mark & Jane came to Mackay from Lancaster in the UK and settled in Mackay. They had a daughter named Jane who was my grandmother. Jane's first marriage was to George leCroft. After he death of LeCroft Jane married my grandfather Charles Abdullah they had three children Alfie, my mother Neta and Alice. I have just about tracked down the Abdullah side of the family but I am having no luck with the Kelly side. If you can help I would appreciate it.

Cheers

ALf

Can you tell us what you already know about Mark and Jane, do you have any BDM certificates and what info do they give?

I can see a birth for Jane KELLY registered in 1877 to Mark KELLY and Jane HAMBEL and that seems to be the only one registered in Qld. There was a Mark (38) and Jane (31) KELLY who arrived in 1875 on the "Gauntlet" and possible children also on the ship were John, 12, Cornelius 11, James 9, Helen 8, Betsy 6, Mark 2. You would need to check the original manifest to see if they were all in a family group.

Cornelius died onboard the ship and is registered as a marine death in 1875, parents Mark KELLY and Jane HAMEL, John died in 1889, parents Mark KELLY and Jane HAMIL.

Son Mark is an interesting one. He married Eliza GARDINER (daughter of Captain GARDINER)in 1918 and lived at Longreach. He also died in 1918 (mother HAMEL)in Brisbane and is buried at the Toowong cemetery - his death notice does not mention children.

Before he married it looks like he had two ex-nuptial children with Sarah Kate TYRELL who was already married to William Hawkins BOLT. The registrations appear under both KELLY and BOLT and one child was Markas John Hamil KELLY (he later used the surname BOLT). Sarah Kate must have reconciled with her husband and they are both buried in Cairns.

It's not the only cemetery in Mackay region though.

Sidney Ward died on the 4th December 1992 in Mackay. Being in NSW I don't have access to newspapers or cemetery records and was wondering if anyone can lookup anything on Sidney. Have checked for headstones on Cemindex but his not there.I haven't tried for a death certificate as I believe he has close living relatives but not 100% sure. His parents were Edward Henry Ward and Hazeline Ward nee Delaney. He was known to use the name Sonny.Checked Trove but not later enough for Sidney.
Any help greatly appeciated

Hi, Marilyn. I just stumbled upon your kind offer. I'd be delighted if you could find out about my Grandmother's brother, John Jones who moved from Wales before the Great War. I believe he took up cane farming, working with a cousin called Charles Jones. I believe there is a connection with an address on Marian Road, Eton North 4740 if that means anything to you.

I'll see if I can find anything out but I don't know if I'll be able to find out any more than you would on ancestry.
Any dates I can use such as ages etc.?
I'll give it a go anyway.

Cheers
