GeneTree web site is closing down

I happened to visit this web site, and found an announcement that they will be closing down their web site very soon.
They are recommending any one with data on their site to move it to another site, and or on to this one, i.e. www.ancestry.com
in a gedcom file or
other means.

I am very unhappy to hear about this.

I do NOT recall receiving an email ALERT from their web site recently regarding this turn of events.

Has any one else? Did they elaborate as to the circumstances of the shut down of their web site?

SMGF (Sorenson Molecular Genealogy Foundation) has been sold to ancestry.com. Genetree was the commercial extension of SMGF.

Anyone with Y-DNA or mtDNA test results from anywhere should upload them to ysearch.org and mitosearch.org, respectively. These are public databases maintained by Family Tree DNA but for anyone who has tested with other companies as well. Of course, also enter them at Ancestry.

Hi Doris

Thank you.

Did not know how they were all associated with one another.

Did the gentleman who started SORENSON pass away??

Just curious.

Surnames: Mills,
Thank you Doris W.
My MILLS descendant, I already posted his DNA markers to the web site, www.ysearch.org.

Not sure but think I also did to mitosearch.org but now has been a long time. will have to go back and check again if still there or if I did it correctly.

Would also like to post my MTDNA test markers also done by SMGF a long time ago. They were searching for some specific female markers. Guess mine were not one of them.

Thank you for reminding me.

note: I also posted his markers to www.ancestry.com and have found 82 others who have similar markers, NONE exact though.
But from what I have been told, means that they share a Common Ancestor, (MRCA) farther back in time. From distance of 2 to 35 generations.

Most likely before the use of surnames began.

So far, do not have enough MEM and RAM to do a "good" job of attempting to find the relationship. How our families
came together.

For now, too many missing branches and blank spaces on female names, what were their surname.

From 1 marker different to 5 markers different. From distance of 2 to 35 generations.
