Catherine Haney was the wife of Dayton Hamer. Dayton Hamer the son of William Hamer and his wife Mary, was born on Dec 9, 1796, supposedly the first child born in the "Dayton Settlement." For more information on this family go to:

Or Google the name "Dayton Hamer" and there is lots of information.

Thank you very much for your support.

So in the 1820 Census as head and all the children she was going by her surname instead of her married name?

Could not find her in any other census but this one.

I jumped the gun a little when I saw the name Catherine Haney. As a researcher of Dayton history, I immediately recognized the name with regard to Dayton Hamer.

The Catherine Haney you are seeing in the 1820 census may be the wife of George Haney (Hany/Heny). [Ref] (HENY HANY), George: will rec. Montgomery Co. Sept. 21, 1835; wife Catharine; sons George, John, Jacob, Michael, Daniel, Joseph, Adam; dau. Catharine, Elizabeth, Mary.

Still, I do not know why she would be listed as head of the household. His estate file or will may give more clues. If you need help with that, let me know.

Thank you very much and yes this is the Haney's I'm looking for and any information you have would be very helpful.

Also I got this information but I don't know how accurate it is..."HANEY FAMILY started in PA they are of German extraction. The first Haney was a ERASMUS HANEY who married a RINEHART, they had a son GEORGE HANEY who married first MARY LONG had children born in Hamilton Co. OH second married MARGARET HARTER in Mami County OH . George had 8 or more children with each wife.GEORGE HANEY'S WILL., he died 1863 in Montgomery County , OH ."

I'm just trying to put the puzzle together.

And once again a very big Thank You.
