I am looking for info on a man who lived with Catherine Harper in the mid 1800's. Catherine had a daughter named Elizabeth. She may have had more children but not sure. Any info on this would be greatly appreciated. Thank You!!!

It might have been a Col. Jesse Hinkle.

My husband is a descendant of Sarah Catherine Harper, who's mother was Catherine Harper and her father was Col. Jesse Hinkle. Sarah was born in July of 1823 in Pendleton Co., WV. I know Catherine Harper and Jesse Hinkle had other children together -- although apparently never married.

Good luck.

Col. Jesse Hinkle was married to Charlotte Hively and they had 1 child, a son but never lived together. Jesse and Catherine had a large family, I believe 11 children together all surnamed Harper, except for one who used Hinkle on his marriage record. Jesse was the son of Capt. Isaac Hinkle and Mary Cunningham. Hannah Hinkle married Henry Jones, Jr. and I am researching this line. They moved to Franklin Co, MO.

Do you have the names of Jesse Hinkle and Catharine Harper's children? I'm researching Sarah Catharine Harper who married Adam Keller. They moved to Appanoose County, Iowa.

I know nothing more about the Harper's than below:

THE HENCKEL BULLETIN, Henckel Family Assoc.
p. 572 The information for the family of Col. Jesse Hinkle is incompleter and confused...I decided to tell the whole story. The Junkins spent much time trying to decide what to do, but since most of the time the children used the name Harper they did not include it. On p. 233 they quote part of a letter from H. M. Calhoun.
p. 578 copy of the entire letter to Miss Curry, the Henckel Historian dated 18 Jun 1929 from H. M. Calhoun who personally had seen Catharine Harper when on a visit to his grandfather who kept her after the death of Jesse Hinkle.

p. 574

Yes. Mary Harter, the former Editor of the Henckel Genealogical Bulletin, wrote an extensive article on the family of Jesse Hinkle and Catharine Harper. If you wish a copy, please contact me privatley.

As for Morton's History of Pendleton County, one must realize that he did not include any children of couples who were not married, so many Pendleton County families are missing.
