According to the book "Our Heritage: Almond and Vicinity" by Ralph Tess, Frederick arrived in 1857 and served in the Civil War.

Frederick's naturalization papers can be found at the UWSP Archives (http://library.uwsp.edu/depts/archives/gensearch1.htm) and it appears he was born circa 1818 in Germany. There is also an obituary for a Doreathea Grosse (could not access it online). Attached is the obit for a Fred Gross d. 1921.

The following are buried in East German Methodist Cemetery, Section 34, Town of Almond:

Grosse, Caroline L. 21 Jul 1877 - 8 Jun 1964
Grosse, Dorothy - d. 4 Oct 1889, age 74 yrs 2 mo
Grosse, F. A. - d. 14 Mar 1890, age 72 yrs 2 mo
Grosse, Gustav F. - 28 Oct 1873 - 22 Nov 1962
Gross, Fred - 1846 - 1921
Gross, Margaret [nee Walter]- [28 Sept] 1850 - [22 Nov] 1935
Shaffer, Minnie [nee Grosse] - [16 July] 1869 [21 Mar] 1950 (wife of Albert)

thank you for the newspaper article. I had the other information, including the book. It is interesting that the newspaper article and his tombstone dropped the "E" on Grosse.
