CORNING - Marian (Murnie) Ida Hemley, 98 years for Founders Pavilion formerly of East Third St, died Wednesday March 22, 2006 at Corning Hospital with her grandson Stephen and his wife Prudence by her side.
She was born in Cameron Mills, NY Sept 20, 1907, the daughter of the late Ernest and Adelaide (Addie) Bowyer Ferguson.
A lifetime resident of Corning and graduate of Corning Free Academy.
Marian and George B. Hemley were married and he predeceased her.
She was employed for Corning Inc. retiring in 1972 with 55+ years service with the company.
Marian loved fishing on Keuka Lake and she was also an avid bowler. She enjoyed watching her favorite baseball team "The New York Mets" on TV.
She is survived by her sisters: Eleanor Ferguson Bostwick of Corning, NY and Betty Ferguson Smith of Keuka Lake, NY; daughter-in-law, Barbara Lee Murray Hemley of Corning, NY; grandson; Stephen M. (and wife Prudence A.) Hemley and grandson, Leo Casey Hemley all of Corning, NY; granddaughters, Debra Hemley (Kerry) O'Shanick of Arnold, MD; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her son, Donald George Hemley and sister, Evelyn Makey Wolcott.

She was born 11 Oct 1913 in Arnot, Pa, to August and Emma Edstrom Anderson. She married Watson Hemly, who died July 11, 1964.
She came to Corning as a young girl, and was a graduate of Painted Post High School. She was employed by the Office for the Aging, Corning, where she participated in individual visitations.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Painted Post, ordained deacon of the church for six years, a member of the church women's group, and a member of the church school. She was a member and past president of the Village Manor Association, and was an active volunteer in the Community of Painted Post.
Surviving are: two sons, Alvin S. and Gary T, both of Painted Post; one brother, Kenneth Anderson of Venice, FL; two sisters, Gladys Kittner of Painted Post, Edith Chadwick of Elmira; 7 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are 7-9 pm Thursday and 2-4 and 7-9 pm Friday in the Haughey Funeral Home, 216 E. First St, Corning. Services will be 11 am Saturday in the First Presbyterian Church of Painted Post, the Rev. Dr. Terry W. Morse officiating.
Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.

CORNING, NY | Donald George Hemley, 75 years of East Third Street died unexpectedly Saturday, February 28, 2004 at his home.
He was born June 5, 1928 in Corning, the son of George Benjamin and Marion Ferguson Hemley.
A lifetime resident of Corning and a graduate of Corning Free Academy, Class of 1947, he was known as one of the best shortstops in the school system and was offered into the tryouts with the Chicago Cubs. Don's decision was to enter the U.S. Navy, where he served five years aboard the USS Coral Sea during the Korean Conflict.
Following his Military Discharge, he served his apprenticeship as a carpenter with his father (a building contractor and owner of Hemley Builders). After his father's death in 1964, he continued the business for 30 years. Later accepted a position as a tradesman for Corning Incorporated, where he retired. At one time he had served as a Code Enforcement Officer for the City of Corning.
Don and Barbara Murray were married February 14, 1953 at the Christ Episcopal Church in Corning, NY. This past Valentine's Day, they celebrated their 51st Wedding Anniversary.
He was a past member of the Corning Lodge of Elks BPOE#1071, John P. Eaton American Legion Post, Indian Hills Golf Club and the Bowling Association.
Surviving his wife, Barbara, Two Sons, Stephen (fiancé; Prudence A. Stowell) Hemley and Leo Casey Hemley all of Corning, NY. Daughter, Debra (Kerry) O'Shanick of Arnold, MD. Three Grandchildren, Zachary Hemley of Corning, NY, Domonique Hemley of Campbell, MO, and Lindsay O'Shanick of Arnold, MD. His mother, Marion Hemley of Corning, NY, Aunts; Betty Smith of Keuka Lake, Marion VanWort of Big Flats, NY and Eleanor Bostwick of Corning, NY. Also many cousins and dear friends.
Don loved sports in general, especially fishing, golfing and bowling. He will truly be missed by all his family and friends. May he rest in Peace with no more pain.
