Hi

I havent seen it yet, but a friend has found that an ancestor of mine was listed in the 1880 Pointe Coupee census living with the Yoist family. I know my ancestors father was deceased by 1880 but I had not know his mother was deceased while he was so young. He was born about 1864, so I gathered from this entry he was an orphan. Anyway my ancestors name was Riggs, but my friend found this Yoist family and I also believe there were some Yoist's in the Catholic church records books, but not the same family my ancestor was living with in the 1880 census.
happy hunting

Hi,
I am 99% certain that all the Yoist families of Pointe Coupee were related. Do you think you friend would share her info with me. I would be glad to share any info about the Yoist family with you if it would help you get more info on the Riggs family. Please let me know if I can help.

Surnames: Riggs, Yoist
I would suspect the Yoist's of early Pointe Coupee are all related. All we have is:

F. M. Yoist male married white 47 born LA
E. J. Yoist wife female married white 41 born LA househeeper
Sallie daughter 19 born La
Edgar R. son 18 born La
Arthor F. son 17 born La
Christy sister (to F.M. we guess) 13 born LA
John son 9 born La
Webster W. son 4 born La
and
D. Rigs male single white 15 born La both parents born LA and occupation laborer-boarder

I bought the census cd's from LDS but cannot open them and am waiting on them to help me. The rep there said it has happened before and I may have to return them.
So I havent even been able to "see" this for myself.
Hope it helps.
Please keep me in mind if you find anything on D. Rigs which may be my Drucis/Drussis/Druisis Riggs.
