My great great grandfather John T. Morgan 2/4/1807 - 5/31/1883 married first: Mary Katherine Keown, second: Rebecca Ann
Barnes Kelly. (He is buried at Union Baptist, Anderson County.) His brother was Thomas Morgan 1817 - 4/3/1871, married to
Sarah Lucretia Keown, sister to John's first wife. They lived in Anderson County all of their lives. A Diana Morgan c. 1767 lived
with Thomas and his family as an old, old lady (listed in the 1850 and 1860 censuses). She is too elderly to have been John and Thomas's
mother, but could have been their grandmother.

I would appreciate any help at all discovering the parents and siblings, if any, of John and Thomas.

Rebecca, I have a John Benton Morgan in my family line that I wonder if he could connect with your line. He was born in Pickens county in 1800/1801, married Mary Ann Nickolson, also from Pickens County. They had several children in Pickens - Benjamine F, B: about 1829; Mary J. B: about 1832; Sarah Caroline, B: about 1834; Nancy Rebecca, B: 20 January 1836. They left Pickens County sometime shortly after her birth and moved to Wills Valley, DeKalb County, Alabama, where they had two more sons, John Malon, B: 10 March 1838 (my gg grandfather), and James Adkins, B: 29 May 1839. From what I know, Anderson County is not far from Pickens County, or may have even been part of the same area during that time period. Do you think that there could be a connection? I would be happy to exchange information with you. I have been hitting a brick wall for months in trying to find out anything about the family of John Benton Morgan. Look forward to a reply from you. Anne

Hi, Anne

I don't think there is anyway to attach anything to this FamilyHistory.com format, so I'm just going to paste a sort of lengthy bit of material that I was sent by a Morgan researcher in hopes that my Anderson County Morgans would hook up in some way. They didn't, but I've kept this list. It's sort of different in that it begins with the most current listing and goes chronologically backward. But...they're Pickens Morgans, and maybe there's a tidbit of help for you in it. Good luck with your Morgans.

Rebecca, you are a real winner! This is one of the lines that some cousins and I have been investigating, but we have not been able to find much information on them, and when I opened your message, you had sent a gold mine! Bless you. We are not sure if this is the correct line, but we strongly believe that it is, and now we have so much more to go on. I cannot thank you enough! You may not have broken down our brick wall, but you have certainly poked a little hole in it and given us the first hope in a long, long time. I am most appreciative. If I can help you in any way, please do not hesitate to ask. I encourage everyone to remain persistant and to keep posting those queries! It does pay off eventually. Even if this is the wrong line, it is more than we have had to go on in a long time, and does at least give us hope and something to work on. Thanks again, and best of luck in your own search! Don't hesitate to contact me if I can be of help to you.

Ever grateful, Anne

Hi, Anne

I'm delighted if my material was helpful to you with your Morgans. I'm sending
you my query--tear-stained, I might add, from frustration--in hopes that someday
you'll bump into some information that might help me.

My Great-great-gramdfather John T. Morgan was born 2/4/1807 and
died 5/31/1883. He married first: Mary Katherine Keown, second: Rebecca Ann
Barnes Kelly. John and Rebecca's children were: William Thomas; John Henry (my
great-grandfather); Wesley Barnes; and Nancy Jane (Hall). John T. and wife
Rebecca are buried at Union Baptist Cemetery.

John T.'s brother was Thomas Morgan 1817 - 4/3/1871, married to Sarah Lucretia
Keown, sister to John's first wife. A Diana Morgan, born c. 1767, lived with
Thomas and his family as an old, old lady (listed in their household in the
1850 and 1860 censuses). She is too elderly to have been John and Thomas's
mother, but could have been their grandmother. According to census records,
According to the census records, Diana must have raised the boys.

Anderson County 1830 Census (Page 106)
Diannah Morgan - page 106
1 male 5 - 10 - Thomas?
1 male 20 - 30 - John?
1 female 15 - 20 ?
1 female 50 - 60 - Diana

Anderson County 1840 Census (Page 115)
John Morgan - page 115
1 male 15 - 20 - Thomas?
1 male 20 - 30 - John T.?
1 female 60 - 70 - Dianna?

Dianah L. Morgan, c. 1767, was living with Thomas in 1850, aged 80 and in 1860 when the
census lists her as being 93.
I've always thought that the way to the parentage of my Morgans is through
Diana Morgan--whoever she was! Could she be the wife of Joshua of Newberry
County? And, if so, what's her connection with the Reuben who signed letters
of administration with her when Joshua died in 1799? The dates could be right,
I think, since Diana would have been born c. 1767 - 1771.

I have fruitlessly searched for parents and other siblings. The two Keown
girls John and Thomas married were the daughters of Robert Keown of Diamond
Mineral Springs, near Antreville, Abbeville Co. John T. and Thomas lived their
whole lives in Anderson County, Dark Corners Township.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Rebecca, I have saved your last message, and also printed it out. I will forward it on to my cousins, who have done even more research than I have, and also keep it in my own files, and hopefully one of use will come across something that will help. I will certainly be on the look out for you! There is a Morgan surname chat group on Wednesday nights at 10 PM on a Huntsville, AL chat line. I will write the URL down and send it to you. You may be able to find someone there who knows something. Good luck, and I'll keep my eyes open for something that will help you! Anne

Hi, Rebecca,

I was thrilled to see these two names on your query! I am looking for Mahlon/Malon MORGAN, b abt 1775, d. Sep 1836, of Abbeville District, South Carolina. I'm not sure of the exact location of his birth. His parents were supposedly Thomas MORGAN and wife Isabel, according to another famiy researcher who sent me this info. Do you have any more info on your Thomas and Isabel? Have you identified any more children? Could Mahlon have been one of their sons? I'd love to hear from you. My email address is DebiGriffinCampbell@myfamily.com.

Thanks so much!

Hi, Debi

I was just listing a Morgan group that was sent to me and that is not my family, as far as I can tell.

I wish I were able to help you, but, if you reread the message, you'll see that I was sending some "alien" Morgans to another researcher, hoping it might help her.
