Does your Smith family come from Knox Co TN?

I have been researching for over 15 years. This past year I started working on a history project for Knox County, Dist 19 Beaver Ridge [Karns], Dist 9 Solway & part of Dist 4 Anderson Co. TN finding the families that moved to this area prior to 1840. This family list is growing, I have 60+ surnames and over 100 total that lived in the above districts . If you believe you have family that came from this area first check the 1830/1840 census on my Blog.

I am interest in contacting family members that may be interested in adding a brief history of the families and will share what I have found if you see a surname that you may believe is a family line. Pryor to 1860 a lot of the sons moved to Texas and Missouri.

I am writing a book and plan to publish it this fall, 2010. Printed copies will be given to the Historical Society of Knoxville. I plan on including all the families that continued to live in this area through 1860. I will include land records, census, tax and court records if found. I will not be doing a genealogy study of the family lines but I plan on doing a family group sheet using census records.

Surnames: Smith, Hembree
Per YDNA testing our ancestor, Levi Jackson Smith connects back to the Meshack Hembree line from this area. Meshack Hembree's son James Martin Hembree was the son of Ibey Surilla Smith Hembree. Levi Jackson Smith's records show he was born about 1840/1842. His connection to this family is proved only by DNA. Our first records is his marriage in Ashley County AR and his family from that marriage. Have been in contact with Dale Standifer. Interested in hearing from anyone that can help with Smiths from this area. Per records he is older than Rilla....perhaps a brother?
