Is she the daughter of Abraham BREEN and Cornelia TANIS? I have been interested in the Ouddorp BREENS TANIS families lately...

Yes, she was...She married Tuenis in March 1830 in Oudorp, apparently they and her brother Ewit (I think that's how you spell his name) immigrated went their separate ways...Ewit's family stayed on the east coast somehow Tuenis Josie's son Cornelius (my great-great grandfather) ended up in California..

E mail me at and I may be able to help you with ancestors... although descendants are not what I have. We connect further back probably on both the TANIS and BREEN families.

My Breen ancestors also came from Ouddorp by way of Texel. I have found much interesting information on Miriam Klaasen's Texel Emigration page ( One of the Breen families she mentioned landed in Paterson NJ; another one has a Tanis in the line. I'm from the group that settled in Graafschap, MI. We may be related!

I would like to know what information you have on the Breen family. I have just started my ancestory project. My grandmother was a Breen from South Dakota, her parents were Fannie and Patrick Breen. The were from Italy and moved to Menlo Iowa. I have pictures of them in Menlo in 1874 - he was 27 and she was 19.

Please let me know what information you have to share.

My g-ggrandfather was Jan Paulus Breen =
brother to Abram Paulus Breen who married
Cornelia Eewitse Tanis. Their fifth child
was a daughter - Jozientje Breen who married
Teunis Rynbrand. I think we are cousins?
Please reply to above email address. Perhaps
we can fill in some blanks we both have in
our trees?

Hi Cousin! That would be absolutely terrific!
Work done by a genealogist? Wow! I can hardly
wait to hear from you. I will try and call tonight.
We are in Cincinnati. I met some other Breen/
Ouddorp cousins who live in New Jersey - I'll pass
along what you send to them, if you don't mind.
I'm thrilled! Talk to you soon. Rosemary
