I am looking for information regarding my grandfather, Erick and his father Herman who came with part of the rest of their family to Pennsylvania in 1903. They settled in Grant County SD. Erick was born in 1899. Herman in approximately 1860. I believe two siblings stayed in Germany. Please contact me if you can give me any more information or know where I can search to find further info. Thanks.

I don't know if this is related, but my great grandfather's name was Johann Herman Butt, born in Germany in 1861. He had several brothers and sisters-don't know how many or all of their names. But one sister ( I think her name was Johanna) married a man named Kunde. I was told they lived in the ND area and had a number of children. If you have anything else, I'd love to hear.

Jim & Jane,

Hi, my name is Karen (Elsen) Hanson. Erick was my great grandfather. He married Annie Kuper and they had three children. Erick passed away back in 1987. I don't remember much about him, but Annie is still alive. She is 103 years old. I haven't seen her in quite awhile, but last time I saw her she was doing well. I'd be happy to give you any information that I have on great grandpa Kunde. You can email me at khanson2877@hotmail.com and I'll talk to great grandma Annie next time I see her. She lives in Milbank, Grant County, SD.

Hi, My grandmother was Johanne (Hannah) Butt. She married my grandfather, Charles Kunde. I believe they lived in St. Mathias, MN close to Brainerd, MN. I am anxious to learn more about these people.
Johanne Luise T. Butt was born Jan. 2, 1868 in Germany.
Karl (Charles) Herman Kunde was born in Stettin, Germany, jan. 1, 1857 and died 1931.
Does any of this fit into your information? Thanks. KN

My Great Grandfather Herman Kunde was born in Germany sometime in 1860. He married Amelia (Emelie) Kasuske also born in Germany. Both came from Germany with their daughters, Martha and Emma and my Grandfather, Erick, in 1903. My family is from Grant Co, SD.
Although there could be some relation, I don't know about it.

Thanks for the reply, Jim. I've noticed several messages regarding an Erick but I know so little about my grandparents, that I don't know if it's all connected. I may find someone to dig further than I can dig. I will save your info, though, for the future. Thanks again. Kay

Hi, There may be a connection here. My Grandmother was Johanne (Hannah) Louise Tugendreich Butt who married Charles Herman Kunde. They immigrated here, he in 1881 and here in 1884. They lived in St. Mathias , Crow Wing County,
Brainerd, MN. Her parents were Charles (Karl) Butt (1841-1924). He died in St. Mathias. She was Augusta Meier or Ruhn (I'm getting conflicting names here.)Her dates are 1840-1912. I think they had a son William in Benton, MN.
Good luck. If you find anything new, please share. This is fascinating, isn't it. Kay

It is fascinating, addictive and frustrating. My Herman Kunde came to the US in 1903 with his wife, Emelie, daughters Martha and Emma and son Erick. They settled in Grant Co. SD
Thank you for posting to me.

this sounds very familiar. I will look up and compare my notes and will get back to you! Thanks for the info. Most of what I have is just names of the kids born and nothing further. Will try to get back to you shortly! Thanks again.
