I don't have much on your Nathan T. Duncan yet, but this line seems related to my line of Duncans. I am a researcher in Lexington, KY and central KY. My fifth great grandmother, Elizabeth Buntin Ray McGary, came with Daniel Boone & Hugh McGary in 1775 to KY from North Carolina's Yadkin valley - and she is listed as being one of the first four mothers to settle in the wilderness area. Her son, General James Ray's daughter married Martin C. Duncan in 1802 at Harrodsburg. He was from Caswell/Person County area of North Carolina. Martins C.'s mother was Mary (unknown) and his father was Daniel Duncan, who may be the son of David "Surry" Duncan who left a will in VA in 1745. Daniel's oldest son was a Nathaniel Duncan. Of the five sons in this family, many named sons Nathaniel Duncan. My Martin C. Duncan had a brother or half brother named Nathaniel Duncan. This Nathaniel also had a son named Nathan. Both of them migrated to the Henderson County area of KY, which included Webster County early on.
I found this link on the internet and visted the site of my Martin C. Duncan brother's grave last year. This place has been forgotten about for years. Most of these folks have North Carolina roots. http://bellsouthpwp.net/w/j/wjtjd/chalybeate_descendents.htm http://18.104.22.168/search?q=cache:v9BOS6CEuTAJ:bellsouthp... http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ky/webster/chalybeate.html
From Mary Ann Dobson & DSA files:
Nathaniel Duncan b. circa 1770 m.Jane Rainey in Caswell Co. NC; their son:
Nathan Benjamin (s/o Nathaniel) b. abt 1793, mar. 1st Elizabeth Humphrey b. 1794 (dau. of William Humphrey and Mary Polly Holloway); mar. 2nd Martha Tyree b. abt 1809 in NC or VA; divorced her and allegedly ran off to parts unknown with her sister Mary Tyree. Daughter of Nathan Benjamin Duncan and Martha Tyree:
Elizabeth Ann Duncan who mar. John Thomas Hearin or Hearon.
Information from another researcher (MAD: name not given): "Nathan Benjamin Duncan and Martha Tyree Duncan were divorced. There is several documents which state that Nathan ran off with Martha's sister, Mary Tyree. There were affidavits stating that no one knew where they ran off to. He was presumed dead in 1849 when his land was sold and the money was divided between all his children and Martha Duncan."
Nathan Duncan Jr. appears on the Henderson Co. KY tax lists of 1835, pg.10; 1836, pg.10; 1837, pg.11; 1839, pg.13. There are compiled family group sheets of Nathaniel Benjamin Duncan Jr. by Nancy Robinson of Seattle, WA, 1991; Annabelle Gibson Nosler of Sacramento, CA, 1990; and Helen Faith of Owensboro, KY, 1991.

Inquiry by Rose Hollingsworth :
I would like to contact Don Theye. I have a copy of an email you sent to the Duncan list; but I do not have your email address. Would love to exchange information. (MAD: Elijah Duncan of Caswell Co. NC to Smith & DeKalb Co. TN)
Are there any other Duncan's researching my Caswell and Kentucky Duncans? Would love to here from you! I have a Duncan that was from Caswell Co., NC as well. He is listed below:
Nathaniel Duncan, born 1760‑1768 Virginia, died about 1846 Corydon, Henderson Co., KY, married Jane Rainey 06 Nov 1782 Caswell Co., NC. Children:
Nathan Benjamin Duncan [proven to be son of Nathaniel]; born abt 1793 probably Caswell Co., NC; died after 1840 whereabouts unknown; married 1) Elizabeth Humphrey 05 Sep 1818 Caswell Co., NC; married 2) Martha Tyree 02 Mar 1827 Caswell Co., NC
Possible other children not yet proven:
Susan Duncan; born 18 Jan 1791 Caswell Co., NC; died 02 Feb 1865 Henderson Co., KY; married Berryman Gibson about 1809
Elijah Duncan; born abt 1791 NC; died 1869 Webster Co., KY; married 1) Unknown; married 2) Jane Umphras [prob Humphrey] 05 Nov 1835 Henderson Co., KY
Nancy Duncan; born abt 1802; married Charles W. Stone 10 May 1834 Henderson Co., KY
The parentage of Nathaniel Duncan is somewhat uncertain. The below family may be that of my Nathaniel; I am not yet convinced. Nathaniel did not follow the usual system of naming his children after his father or brothers; then again, he may have had other children that stayed behind or died young.
Daniel Duncan; died 1779/1781 Caswell Co., NC; married Mary. Mary left a will 1782 Person Co., NC [at one time part of Caswell Co]. She mentions the following children: Nathaniel; Nancy Merritt; Frances Madding; Mary "Polly" Ragsdale; Sally; Martin C.; Elizabeth; Abner; Patience Wilkerson. This Daniel may even be an older brother to Nathaniel. I also wonder if Elijah could be an older brother as well.
There was an Elijah [mentioned above] which moved to Henderson Co., KY along with Nathaniel. Elijah named one of his sons Absalom Richard [he went by both names]. Don's Elijah had a son Richard also. Too many similarities in these Duncan families; surely there is a connection somewhere!
Don, I am very curious to see your family group charts and references. Please email me! Thanks, Rose Hollingsworth

mailing list 5/14/2000, and later correspondence:
Her Nathan Benjamin Duncan was married first to Elizabeth Humphreys and were probably divorced in Caswell Co., NC since he married my ancestor Martha Tyree there. Elizabeth (Humphreys) Duncan died in Henderson Co., KY. Nathan and Martha were divorced in Henderson Co., KY.
I have copies of Nathan and Martha's divorce affidavids [Henderson Co., KY] which are from several Duncans but no relationship are stated. I'm hoping to find Nathan and Elizabeth's divorce documents in Caswell Co; hoping their affidavids will list relationships!
MAD: sent her info about Carole Marcum, extracts from my files, and after she sent her address, sent her my files in Henderson and Webster and Union Co. KY, Caswell and Person Co. NC, and Surry/Sussex Co. VA; asked if she could help Tracy S. Kelley <email@example.com
> who is looking for a John Duncan b.1808, mar. Nancy Smith, to TN? then to Henderson, Webster, Union Co. KY area.
