I am looking for information on Hezekiah Robinson/Robertson born ca 1777. According to the Limestone Co. census of 1850 he was born in 1784 in VA. But according to his tombstone he died in 1852 at 75 yrs, which makes him born in 1777. He married Ann Grantham in 1808 in Hawkins Co. TN. They moved to Giles Co,TN. They had 2 children, John Robertson and Richard Grantham Robertson. Ann died ca 1812 and he married her sister, Tabitha Grantham in 1816 in Hawkins Co. TN. They then moved to Limestone Co. AL (not far from his home in Giles Co.) Their children were:William G,Thomas D., Gale, Bose (he was a midget),Hezekiah Calvin, Green Coleman, Sam, Arthur C,Mary Jane, and George H.
A family story is that Hezekiah took a flat bottom boat to New Orleans in 1812 (He fought in the war of 1812). When he returned Ann had died and Tabitha had came to stay with the children. He then married her.

I am researching Thomas Robertson. He had a brother John, but I am more interested in his sister Mary "Polly" Robertson who married James Henry Dykes, Sr. They lived in Scott County, VA which is next to Hawkins County, TN. The Winigars also were in Hawkins and Scott. It is reported that Thomas's father was Benjamin Robertson born in NC. I just started on this line. There is a posting of Benjamin's family on Gencircles.

I've keep information on this family because I once thought my ancester
Rebecca Robertson Maggard was from this family but no evidence reinforces
this. I still "keep" her in this family because I cannot find anything else
for her. Below is what I have hope it gives you a clue of where to look
next. If you discover any information on Rebecca I would appreciate
it.-Deborah Thompson Clarkston

1853 in Letcher Co KY (Old Maggard Cemetery, between Eolia and Partridge,
Letcher Co KY).

Notes for REBECCA ROBERTSON:

I do not believe that Benjamin Robertson was the father of Rebecca
Robertson. I

have all of Rebecca's siblings and none named any of their children
Benjamin.

Which was a very common practice in those days. But two names are used by
all the

siblings; John and Susannah. In fact one even added Robertson as a middle
name -

John Robertson.

In Thomas Robertson's WILL he listed his brothers and sisters as "of the
hold

blood". After Thomas death a girl suit for her part of the estate but lost
because

she was not of the "hold blood". So who remarried - the father or mother and
was

this girl a half sister or step sister???? Just a few things to think about.

Is John and Susannah our Rebecca's parents????

In my book - I added Benjamin to my John Maggard but that has proved also to
be

incorrect.

Ken Maggard

"He was a powerful and well learned speaker and had the special gift of
composing songs. Some old timer far back told me that this David returned to
Letcher County for the funeral of his brother James and that he sung a song
at that service which greatly impressed the congregation." "Leaving them
(his parents) in (his brother) Moses's care, he then moved his family or
that portion which then remained at home, to Bruin Creek,..(in Carter Co
KY)..He prospered greatly in the new location and there built a nice home
which he painted white. It was then the only white housw in Carter County .
Consequently the surrounding community was named White House."-V. N. "Bud"

Thank you for the information. Susannah Robertson and Mary "Polly" Robertson married brothers. Susannah married John Dykes born bet 1771-1779 and died about 1858 in Hawkins County, TN. They married about 1802. Susannah died August 29, 1872. Polly married James Henry Dykes, SR James Henry Dykes, Jr. was married first to Rebecca Nelson. Rebecca divorced him after he had gone to White County, TN to settle his mother's inheritance and became involved and getting pregnant his second wife. Some people have Rebecca as dieing during childbirth in White County, but instead she was in the 1880 census of Scott County, VA. Her grand daughter (through her daughter Sarah) Mary "Molly" Dykes, married Thad Preston Lincolin Persinger. These are my great grand parents. Rebecca Nelson had a brother, who had to go to court because he had said some things about James Henry Dykes, Jr. I appreciate the info you have sent me.

I may be descended from Rebecca Robertson Maggard. Do you have any of her descendents listed in your material on that family? My grandfather's father, Nicolas Ledington b 1883 married a Winnie Maggard. I read in your posting that John Back, husband of Catherine Robertson b 1782, emigrated to Knox Co. Ky in 1806. My grandfather and grandmother lived in Knox Co, Ky from the beginning of their married life, and for many years after until they moved to Whitley Co, where I live now.

Any help you might have would so much be appreciated.

Thank you,
Myra Sizemore
