My grandfather, Michael Patrick CROTTY, born 25 March 1875
Buffalo, Erie County, NY. His parents were Michael P. CROTTY born c.1842 Ireland and Hannah (Hanora) BURKE born c. 1847 Ireland. Michael P.'s father was John CROTTY and his mother was Bridget KELLY. Hannah BURKE's father was Michael BURKE and her mother was Margaret CROTTY (Info from Hannah's death certificate). Margaret CROTTY is questionable. Was she related to the CROTTY'S that Hannah married or is it a different family or is it an error??? Per family tradition, the CROTTY's came from County Clare. Any help out there???

I have a MICHAEL CROTTY in my late husbands family. He came to America about 1811, he was indentured to a Doctor in Bedford, VA. After his 7yrs. was up he married Miss Dowdy.
He moved to Greenbried Co., WV (VA). He had several children, one was Charles Preston Crotty who married Nancy Eagle of Lancaster, PA. Does any of this fit your family.
Thanks. I have more info on this family if it fits yours.

I don't have a direct relationship to Crottys or Griffins from County Clare, but I'll just note that my ggfather and ggmother came from Clare (Michael Boyle and Ellen Howe) and settled in Garryowen, Jackson County, Iowa. They had quite a few Crottys and Griffins as neighbors, baptismal sponsors, etc., so if you're looking for family connections, you might want to consider this area (esp. if you're looking for Iowa relatives in the 1840s and 1850s).

I think there is a connection here. James Hassett(your James Bassett?) immigrated from County Clare in 1888. He landed in Buffalo and then to Cincinnati. He married Nora Crotty(from Buffalo) in Cincinnati. Nora's parents were Stephen Samuel Crotty and Bridget Griffey. We know Nora had siblings, Simon, Patrick, Anne, Lenorah(could be Eleanor)and Genevieve. James and Nora (Crotty) Hassett named one of their children Genevieve. Another was named Stephen (my father-in-law). Stephen's wife has Lillis relatives on her father's side. I have more info.

This is a real connection. Stephen Crotty and Bridget Griffin came from Kilkee, in the civil parish of Kilfearagh, townland of Moyarta, to Buffalo, NY in 1882. Their children included Nora (Hassett) of Cincinnati, Mrs. Thomas Lillis of Lowell, Mass., Anna (Milan) of Minneapolis,
Michael of Dixon, Illinois, Patrick, Simon, Delia, Catherine, Jennie, James and others (?David, Samuel, Thomas). Any other connections out there to CROTTY or GRIFFIN from Kilkee or Buffalo?
