Currently researching my Gottscheer ancestors in the area of Slovenia now known as Kocevje. Have accessed information from Latter Day Saint's microfilm records which go back to the late 1600's to the early 1700's depending on the town and parish. Wanted to know if there are any other record sources, especially civil ones that may go back even further. Ancestors came from towns called Pollandl, Altlag, Pogrelz, Unterwarmberg, Steinwand, Komutzen, Oberwarmberg, and others. Many of these towns were destroyed during and after World War II.

Any help?? Thank you.

My GM Agnes (Anezka) Kuchar is from Lazec or Kozicin SE of Plzen, near the town of Pribram. Her father was James Kuchar and her mother was Justine Ocenasek. They came from Aust/Boh to Cleveland Ohio where she met and married my GF John Stika and then moved to Dillonvale OH where my Mother Helena was born later they moved to Chgo IL where my mother met and married my father George Luzer (Luzar). I don't believe the Kuchar name connects with yours, but I will keep you on file and appreciate your response. Thank you, Christine.

I have a Margaretha "Metha" KUCHARZA b. abt 1734-35, d. 27.03.1802 in Rakitoviz, parish Cesnjice. She married Nicolaus SAIZ. They had a daughter Margaretha "Maria" SAIZ, b. Oct. 1783 in Rakitoviza, and d. 1839 in Poljana, parish Cesnjice. I have found that the spelling of names was continually changing during this period.

Am also researching the LUZAR name, also know of others. My maiden name was LUZER but in other documents it has been found to be spelled 3 different ways. Have only gotten as far back as my GF Frank who was born in Chgo, IL around 1880 but have just recently sent for some information that may find my GGF who was named Frank and his wife who was named Mary (Marie). Family is originally from Aust/Boh as far as the census. Frank Luzer married a Mary (Marie) Svec. Will be looking forward to any response you might give.

Surnames: Agnic, Agnich, Agnitsch
Hey Tom:
As you can see from the names listed above, Agnic/Agnich/and Agnitsch are all the same family!!!
In fact, due to alphabetical differences, if you search for Agnic families in Slovenia via the phone book..... the spell the name Agnee..... go figure?!

Anyway, I have lots of research on the Agnitsch familie you are looking for. The town is now spelled Crnomeln.... which is a slight variation of the German spelling Tschernomeln. So which group in the US are you researching? There are only about 6 areas in the US where this family and their relatives moved to in the US: Illnois, Iowa, Minnesota, Ohio, NY, NJ when they immigrated in the late 1800s. Would like to share info with anyone. You can email direct if you don't wish to post family tree info on this web site.
