Thomas Jefferson Flythe was my great-grandfather. He died March 14, 1915 in Greensville Co., Va. Bonnie

Thomas J. Flythe

Died at his home in North Emporia at 2:15 O’clock Sunday morning, T.J. Flythe aged seventy-nine years.

Mr. Flythe contracted grippe about two weeks ago, which soon developed into pneumonia, resulting in his death early Sunday morning.

He was a man of excellent habits, fine moral character and sturdy constitution, and he continued to be active in his accustomed pursuits till long past the age at which men ordinarily drop out of the ranks of the workers. To this end there is no doubt that his sunshiny disposition largely contributed.

Mr. Flythe had passed almost his entire life in this county. He served during the four years of the war. He was a member of company D, Third Virginia Regiment, Kemper’s Brigade, Pickett’s Division, Longstreet’s Corps and was with Lee at the surrender at Appomattox.

He is survived by a wife, five sons: J. Fred, of Portsmouth; John T. of New York; Clarence W. of Richmond and Richard A. and Cary P. of North Emporia and one daughter; Mrs. R.L. Emory of Chase city.

The burial service was conducted by Dr. W.W. Lear of the Methodist church from the residence on Monday and the interment was in the Emporia cemetery.

Hi Cathy,
The newspaper clipping was in my grandfather's papers, but did not have the name of the paper on it. I expect it was printed in the Independent Messenger of Emporia, Va.
Which of Thomas Jefferson Flythe's children do you descend from?

My grandmother was Ruth Flythe, daughter of James Fred Flythe, son of Thomas Jefferson Flythe. I worked on the Flythe family back in 1995 and then switched to my mothers' family. I've lost everything I had collected in '95 and am starting all over. :) Thanks for the quick response Bonnie, I really appreciate it.
