I am working collateral Goodrum lines descending from Barton Clark in Houston Co., Texas, which includes all those from Benjamin Franklin Goodrum & wife Harriet Clark. I know I am not in your line with this, but your maiden name of Whatley caught my eye. As you may know, one of Ben Goodrum's sons was Burton Eugene Goodrum (1878-1938), who married Annie May WHATLEY (1885-1960). Annie was born at Belton, Texas & died at Hempstead, Texas. Can't help but wonder if & how your Whatleys tie into Annie's. By the way, Annie's parents were James Willis Whatley & Laura Elizabeth Nelson.

You have a good contact there with Marty Cash. He is very knowledgeable & very helpful.

Great to hear from you again, too. Bellot (pronounced Bee-Lot) is in Houston County, probably about 15 miles east of Crockett. The only reason I know that is because my wife & I looked at a tract of land there a couple years ago. My entry on Annie May Whatley showed her as being born at Belton, which was (as I now see) probably an erroneous transcript of Bellot. Thanks for that data. I show Burton Eugene Goodrum & Annie as having been married in Houston County on 20 March 1904. I also have Annie as dying on 19 April 1960 at Hempstead, Texas. Perhaps she was living with her daughter, Annie Vivian Goodrum, who lived there & was county extension agent for 30 years. I also have that Burton Eugene lived in Matagorda County from 1918 to 1921, then returned to Houston County for the remainder of his life. He was a merchant & farmer.

KENDON,
THIS RESPONSE IS FROM ANNETTE WHATLEY JACKSON AND PAULA WHATLEY SPICHER, MY SISTER.
THE REASON MY MAIDEN NAME IS WHATLEY IS BECAUSE ANNIE MAE WHATLEY IS MY GRANDFATHER HERBERT WHATLEY'S SISTER. ANNIE MAE, EFFIE, AND HERBERT WERE JAMES WILLIS AND LAURA ELIZABETH WHATLEY'S CHILDREN. TO MAKE IT MORE CONFUSING HERBERT MARRIED ANNIE BELLE GOODRUM, FROM THE SAME GOODRUM FAMILY AS ANNIE MAE WHATLEY MARRIED INTO. THEY WERE SISTER-IN-LAWS. ANNIE MAY MARRIED ANNIE BELLES FATHER'S FIRST COUSIN BARTON CLARK. THEY WERE THE SAME AGE AND LIVED IN WELDON AREA AT SAME TIME. JAMES WILLIS WHATLEY, MY GREAT GRANDFATHER IS STILL A MYSTERY TO ME.
I DON'T KNOW HIS PARENT'S NAME OR HIS SIBLINGS. IF YOU KNOW ANY OF THIS PLEASE LET ME KNOW. THANKS.

Thanks much for the reply. And yes, you have thoroughly confused me (sometimes it doesn't take much)! Let me try to figure this out by asking: Exactly whom did Annie Belle Goodrum marry? I can't seem to find her in my Goodrum charts. I show Annie May Whatley marrying Burton Eugene Goodrum & Mary Agnes "Mollie" Goodrum marrying Barton Clark Goodrum. I also have Barton Clark Goodrum & Burton Eugene Goodrum as brothers. Now, again, where does Annie Belle Goodrum fit into this scene? Help!!!
Thanks again.

KENDON,
ANNIE BELLE MARRIED WILLIS HERBERT WHATLEY,SON OF LAURA ELIZABETH NELSON AND JAMES WILLIS WHATLEY. SHE IS A GREAT GRANDAUGHTER OF WILLIAM BUCK GOODRUM. HE HAD SIX CHILDREN,ROBERT B.,THOMAS VAN,BENJAMIN FRANKLIN,MARLON, ELIZABETH AND FRANCES. ROBERT B. HAD FIVE CHILDREN ROBERT WELLS (ANNIE BELLE'S FATHER) LEONIDAS OSCAR, JAMES CLAYTON AND ELIZABETH. BENJAMIN FRANKLIN HAD BURTON EUGENE, DEVILLA, EARL BENJAMIN, BARTON CLARK, JAY GOULD, MARLON, LENNIE OLA, EMMA JANE, OK, AND MARY DIXIE. ANNIE MAY MARRIED INTO THIS LINE, AND ANNIE BELLE MARRIED ANNIE MAY'S BROTHER. SO THEY JUST EXCHANGED LAST NAMES . ANNIE MAY WHATLEY BECAME ANNIE MAY GOODRUM AND ANNIE BELLE GOODRUM BECAME ANNIE BELLE WHATLEY. NOW YOU ARE REALLY CONFUSED. MY SISTER PAULA WAS GOING TO SEND YOU ALL THE FAMILY TREE WE HAD IF YOU DIDN'T GET IT LET US KNOW. THANKS
