I am looking for information on Mary Ann Lockley who married Albert Edward Brockhurst. I also want information on Albert Brockhurst. I know they lived in the Bushbury, Wolverhampton area for a while in the early 1900's and had several children.

I HAVE JUST SEEN YOUR MESSAGE, AND VERY INTERESTED. MY FATHER WAS ARTHUR LOCKLEY AND WAS BORN IN WOOLVERHAMPTON STAFFORDSHIRE IN ABOUT 1882. HE WAS ONE OF A BIG FAMILY, AND I HAVE ALL THEIR NAMES. HOWEVER, I WOULD LIKE TO FIND OUT MORE ABOUT MY GRANDPARENTS, HARRY AND ELIZABETH FROM THERE. PERHAPS THERE IS SOME CONNECTION WITH YOUR MARY ANN ALTHOUGH THAT NAME IS NOT ONE OF MY FATHER,S IMMEDIATE FAMILY.WOULD LIKE TO COMPARE NOTES WITHYOU. GOOD LUCK ANYWAY WITH YOUR RESEARCH.

Hi Iris,

Mary Ann Brockhurst (nee Lockley) was my Great Grandmother, but for some reason she was known as Polly - no idea why and unfortunately I don't know any more at this moment about the Lockleys. I do know that they (Mary Ann and Albert) had (I think) 7 children, Elizabeth, Dorothy, William, Harry, Miriam, Frederick and possibly James - not in this order. Mary Ann (or Polly) is buried in the churchyard at Stowe by Chartley, Stafford, but unfortunately there is no gravestone. Her husband (Albert), for some reason is buried in the churchyard at Claverley, Shropshire.

If I get any further information I will pass it along, but at the moment I seem to have come to a dead end.

Regards,

Wendy

Thank you Wendy.Notice that Mary Ann had a son named Harry. They always called their children after relatives in early days, wonder if Mary Ann had a brother Harry, who could just by a mere chance have been my grandfather? You haven't checked either birth or marriage certificates of Mary Ann have you? Churches in Woolverhampton may be able to help there. good luck, will keep in touch. Iris.

Hi Iris,

Sorry, haven't had chance to investigate further yet. I'm not sure which church they were married at, it may be in Bushbury which is on the outskirts of Wolverhampton, my Grandmother was born at Bushbury (I don't think she was the oldest), but I have heard that my Great Grandparents may have moved around quite a bit so it could be that they were married elsewhere. I will have to investigate further. Will let you know if I find out anything. Wolverhampton City Council have a website which may provide you with further information: www.wolverhampton.gov.uk/archives/index.htm

Regards,

Wendy

I'm always curious to research my namesakes. There is mention of young Harry Lockley of Bushbury in the History of the Whitgreaves of Mosely and Roman Catholicism in the Parish, at http://www.localhistory.scit.wlv.ac.uk/articles/bushbury/fam...
