Joseph Thumm, 88, 707 Germania Drive, Ottawa, died Monday morning at Ottawa Care Center.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Columba Catholic church with the Rev. R. J. Boyle officiating. Burial will be at St. Columba Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Ottawa Funeral Home with liturgical prayers at 7 with the Knights of Columbus in attendance.
Mr. Thumm was born July 18, 1897 in Green Bay, Wis., to Herman and Mary (Moore) Thumm. He married Marie Duffy on April 15, 1918, in St. Columba Church and she died May 5, 1968. He founded Thumm furniture store in Ottawa in 1925 and had remained active until the summer of 1985. He was a member of St. Columba Church and Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by one sone, William of Ottawa; three daughters, Geraldine Thumm and Mrs. Wesley (Joanne) Cheek, both of Naples, Fla., and Betty of Hammond, Ind.; 19 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
He was preceeded in death by his wife, one daughter, Lucile Cole, four brothers and three sisters.
Memorials may be directed to mass cards or St. Columba Building Fund.
