I am trying to find out more information on this person. She is my 3rd great grandmother and was born in England in 1773. She died June 30, 1839 in Oxfordshire, England and was married to Thomas Wiggins (1779-1849).

Does anyone know who her parents were, as well as her grandparents?

Thanks.

Do you have any information about the date/place of their marriage ?

From the information you give, it appears Elizabeth died in the Bicester area, and that is also where Thomas (and son Robert) are living in the 1841 census ...assuming I have the right family.

I have a transcript of the Bicester parish records for the period but can't see any record of their marriage or baptisms (nor of Robert)in that parish..... if you have no other information it may mean looking at the surrounding parishes and working outwards.

I have found an Index entry suggesting they married by licence (or at least applied for one) in 1795.

Thomas is listed as from Ambrosden, Elizabeth from Blackthorn.

The original licence may still exist and have further information, but IF it does that would probably be held at Oxford Records Office.

Chalfont research.

Also - Ambrosden is right on the border between Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire, so it may be that both offices hold relevant information.

According to my records, Elizabeth Austin and Thomas Wiggins were married June 2, 1795 in Ambrosden, Oxfordshire, England.

One of their sons was Thomas D. Wiggins (1812-1869) - my Great-Great Grandfather who was married to Mildred Ann Wilhoite in Kentucky.

According to the OFHS's Oxfordshire Marriage Index (1538-1837), both Elizabeth and Thomas were minors at the time of their marriage in 1795 - which would probably explain the need for a licence (although from the date you give for Elizabeth's birth - 1773 - this would make her around 22 years at the time of her marriage).

The actual Ambrosden register entry will give the names of witnesses and possibly other information.

Thank you for your information. I am confused, also, as the date of Elizabeth's birth that I have is 1773, although her husband Thomas Wiggins was born in 1779. That would make him 16 at the time of their marriage (1795), but she would have been 22 as you state. I did hear from the Oxfordshire History Center today and they found the entry for their marriage on June 2, 1795.

Thanks for responding.
