Oral Family History

From several of my relatives (most now deceased) I have heard that my g-grandfather was in a bar fight in Ky (Covington keeps coming up) and supposedly killed the other person. He fled to Missouri with the help of friends or relatives that hid him in a rolled up mattress to get him out out town. Is there anyway to verify this info. His name was Calvin Harrison. he was 12 or 14 years old in 1880, living in Grant's Lick, Ky and was married in Missouri by 1890. So this incident had to have happened between 1882 and 1890.

There is a death certificate for a Calvin Abner Harrison who was born in KY in 1866 and died in MO in 1944. Could this be your relative?

Yes it is. I'm just trying to find out if the fight he got in or supposedly got in is true and if there is any way to find out if it happened.
