Surnames: Fulton
Death makes no sense as it applies to a social security number, since how can they assign a new ss# to a dead person? The middle two numbers in my SS# are 72, and I am very much alive! My sister has the same 72 in the middle of hers.......there is a better answer somewhere. I don't know what it is, but I know what it is not and the middle numbers are assigned upon birth now.

I'm not sure what you are asking or assuming about the middle numbers. As far as I know, the first and middle set of numbers relate to where you lived when you applied for the #.

Or perhaps you are referring to when one dies and the estate must obtain an Employer ID # rather than using the deceased's SSN? I think that is an IRS matter, rather than an SSN matter.
