Nettlebed, Henry HEATH m Mary BRAKESPEAR

Surnames: HEATH, BRAKESPEAR
I am so stuck! I have a Henry HEATH who married Mary BRAKESPEAR in 1893. Mary has been living in Nettlebed Oxfordshire all of her life. In the 1901 census she is noted as a widow however I am unable to find the death for Henry HEATH. Is it likely that he didn't die and she put down that she was a widow? She remarried in 1910 to an Ernest Edward MILES. I have no evidence of Mary BRAKESPEAR and Henry HEATH together other than marriage record and she has possibly 7 children with him ranging from 1890 and 1902 although there is no proof that he is the father of the first 3 or the last 1...

Any help to clarify things would be wonderful!
Hannah

There are Henry HEATH deaths registered in Henley ( the registration district that included Nettlebed) in 1893, 1895 and 1896. Have you discounted those ?

Have you checked the burial registers at Nettlebed ?

Not quite sure where you have been looking! For the GRO index to civil registration events in England and Wales from 1 July to the middle of the twentieth century (and the transcription process is still ongoing), FreeBMD (www.freebmd.org.uk) should be your first (and probably last!) port of call.

The deaths are listed in the GRO indexes, available through Ancestry, FindMy Past or FreeBMD .... not sure why you are not finding them.

On further inspection ....looking at ages in the index , the 1895 death appears to be an infant. The 1893 one was born about 1845, but is Henry William HEATH.

The 1896 Henry HEATH death entry has an age of 34 (b abt 1861/2), and the reference for Henley is Oct-Dec 1896 Vol3a p475. He would be the right age for an 1893 marriage, so may be worth getting the certificate (if that fits with your other information). There is a Henry HEATH in the 1891 census in Nettlebed of around that age (b abt 1864) shown as a servant .

Antony
