English Wills & Administraion

Hi - I found a record for Frederick Harker Cooke under "England & Wales, National Probate Calendar (Index of Wills & Administration). Is this an index? Is there somewhere else I can go to find copy of actual Will? I am trying to find his daughter's maiden name.

Thanks, Lisa

Hello Lisa

Yes, it is an index. To get a copy of the will, follow the instructions at http://www.justice.gov.uk/courts/probate/copies-of-grants-wi... (scroll down the page to the section headed "What if I can't get to First Avenue House or a Registry".

Frederick's daughter may be mentioned in the will, but surely her maiden name would have been Cooke?

Thanks so much - and I meant married name :) I was "told" that two of Fred's grandson's were killed in WWII, so I have been trying to figure out if his children married and if so, who. I found a few possibilites; I willl have to order certs thru GRO. And I thought maybe wills might help. Although last night I did find the Will index for Fred's wife Harriet and it mentions daughter Anne as a spinster. So perhaps she never married so the men killed would not have been her children.

It will be interesting to get copies of the will's so thanks again!!''

Cheers, Lisa
