A good place tp start would be the Hudson Bay Archives in
Winnipeg. A lot of Scots worked with them - mainly those from the north of Scotland. Good luck

My neighbor, Ferlyn Brass, is a First Nations resident at the Key Indian Reserve in Saskatchewan. We understand his ancestors originated in Scotland. Ferlyn is very interested in tracing his European background. Any information regarding Scottish Brass men who immigrated to Canada in the late 1700s would be most appreciated.

Debra,

I have details of the marriage record of Julius Brass and Annie Bengen in Glasgow in 1896. Contact me if you want further information. Incidently I see no Julius Brass in the index of the 1891 Census of Scotland.

Stuart, Thank you for the response. I know for a fact that my Julius was from Germany. My records show him coming to the USA in 1882-3. Even though he was from Germany I do not know his birth country. It could be German or it could not. Thanks, Debra

Stuart,
My family is in South Africa, and I have been struggling to get information from them. My mother kept the correspondence from the lawyers in the the late 60's. She will be sending them to me. At this stage, I cannot give you my Grandfathers name, until I communicate with my mother, however, I can get this info in the next week or two. My Grandfather was a young man in thed 1st World War, which would put his birth in the late 1800's
Thank you very much for responding to my query.

Debra,

My husband's great-grandfather, August Frederick Brass, came to America with his parents (names unknown) at the age of 5, probably late 1870s- early 1880s. According to August's younger sister Aimee Brass Parker (b. 1884 in MO/OH), their parents were married in Menz, Germany/Prussia. Their daughter Clara Brass Siemen was born in 1887.

They came to Cleveland, OH before settling in Missouri (first Doniphan, then St. Louis in 1898). August married Margaret E. O'Neill in 1897 in Doniphan, MO.

I am uncertan of were Menz is exactly or trhe origins of August' sfamily, but Would like to know if you are familiar with any German Brass who settled in OH or MO.

Thank you,
Jane Brass
