Seeking information on the Anton and Marie Janda and their children: Mary, Rosie, Mary, Charlie, Annie, Mathilda, Anton, and Frank who lived in the Chicago area on Ridgeland, Harvey and Sawyer Avenues in the 1900-30's. The family was originally from Bohemia. Mary married a Jan Jerik, Mathilda (Tillie) married a Jake Kadiera, Anna married John Anders, Rosie marrie a Fucik, and that is all I know presently. Any information would be welcomed. Thank you.

My grandfather was also from Bohemia.

Hi,
I was wondering if you know any of Anton's siblings.
The reason I am asking my mother spent time visiting the Janda/Yanda families there in Chicago.
My Great granbfather - Jacob Janda (abt 1846) died in PA in 1886.
But I am still trying to find his siblings connection.
Thanks Laurie

Anton Janda and family is found in the 1900 census.

also of interest, my grandmother Besse Belle Bunda (b. 1902) who married George W. Lerch (b. 1900, both of Bohemian parentage, and living in chicago/Berwyn, had someone they were acquainted with named Joseph J. Janda...I'm still trying to find out if he is a family member.
I have found many Janda obituaries from the Chicago area in that time perios, let me know if you are looking for one in particular.

Hi Dennis,
By any chance is the birth for your Great-Great Grandfather October 1846? And when did he pass away?
Is he buried in Chicago? (Cook County maybe?)
Is he from Bohemia or Czech or Austria?
Thanks, Laurie

Re: Janda family from Chicago -- Josef and Rudolf, brothers of an Anton

Josef and Rudolf Janda arrived in Philadelphia 1 Jun 1910 on the ship Breslau (Lines 21 and 22, image 57/88). Josef’s nearest relative in the country of origin, Moravia, is his wife Frantiska in Nova Ves, Moravia. Rudolf’s nearest relative is his brother Anton. Rudolf’s occupation is tailor. They are going to see or live with Rudi Stevens on Fullerton in Chicago.

In the WWI registrations, Rudolf listed his birthdate as 27 Jan 1877. He eventually lived on Avers Ave. His wife was Rose, and children were Elsie, Rose, Emma, and Rudolf.

My researcher in the Czech Republic has a client who is in possession of letters from the Jandas on Avers. As it turns out, this Janda in the CR is my 4th cousin, because my great grandmother, Antonia Janda, was from the same family. Therefore, I would also be related to the Jandas who lived on Avers.

I don't know if there is a connection between these Jandas and the ones in this thread; the only matching fact is the name "Anton".

Rudolf Janda was my great-grandfather through his daughter Elsie, date of birth June 9, 1914. I can confirm that Rudolf was a tailor in Chicago and they lived on Avers Ave.

Elsie married Albert Harkey and they were farmers in Bainbridge Township, Michigan.

I have recent history but am more interested in their Bohemian/Czech connections, of which I know nothing. Those letters would be of particular interest.
