Im trying to do research of my family tree so first i would like to know what my last name meansand i would also like to see how far i can trace it back. My family lives in Brooklyn, Queens and long Island. My grandfathers parents came to America from Barres Italy. any info would be helpful E-Mail me

hi im pretty much doing what you are doing..im from california and my grandfather lived in mexico last name toscano...we dont know where it came from being that they are all mexican..if u know anything could u let me know ..thanks

Hi, My name is Sandra, I'm also interested in the meanimg of our surname. I don't know what our last name means but when I find out I'll post it. My grandfather was from Mexico, his father was Gervacio Toscano he married Trinidad Gutierrez , My grandfather had a son that now lives in Central California, and now I have cousins living there, in Michigan and Texas.

I'm also Mexican specifically in Jalisco born but i know that the last name Toscano comes from Italy. I went on vacation to Rome and Florence in 2005 and i found out that the Toscano name is from the region of Toscana in which is similar to a state here in the US. I believe that some how our ancestors traveled with the Spaniards on there quest to Mexico and ended up staying in Mexico. If you go to Florence and your name is Toscano you will find out that the last name is very common unlike in mexico or even the US.

Actually Toscano/Tuscano is quite common in the U.S. My husband's Toscano family came from the Abruzzi region in Italy.

not sure what it means but my grandfather was named thomas toscano..he was married to my grandmother in texas i know my grandfather worked in michigan some times and had a mistress there.. and had children with her.

It's pretty simple, generally the last name is the area they are from. Toscano...most likely Tuscany. Etc. my grandfathers last name was Pellegrino, there is a Mount Pellegrino in Sicily where the city he is from. Also means pioneer. A lot of Italians moved to argentina and other latin american countries if they couldnt get into the usa.

ok well everyone in my family is mexican, and out of somewhere the name toscano came up. all i know is that my great great grandmother came from italy. when i looked up the name up it says that it originated from tuscany. but the name toscana also kept popping up. is there a difference between the two? if so what is it?
