Andrew Rea is one of my great grandfather's, I have him in my family tree, but have little information about him. I would appreciate anything you could tell me about him or his family. I never knew his wife Jane's last name, so this is very interesting to me. My grandfather Robert William Ray was born in Wheatland, Indiana, he was the son of William Ray, who was the son of Andrew Ray who was born in Lawrence County Indiana. Andrew's father's name was William I believe, and his father was John. I would like to share information with you.

I will get back with you next week as I am getting ready to leave for vacation. Andrew's son John, Jr. married Jnae or Jean Smith, theeir son William, which is my line, married Milly Etchison in Lawrence Co in 1830. William did not die until 1884 and the parents names were on his death certificate believe it or not.

Andrew Rea and his brother John came to North Carolina and settled in Mecklenburg County before 1765. Both brothers were instrumental in the organization of Providence Presbyterian Church. John had agreed to furnish land for the church but he died prior to doing so.The deed was not obtained until his youngest son was 21years of age. Andrew was one of the first Elders and served in that office for the rest of his life. His grave is in the church cemetery. At the present time there are not many of Andrew's descendants left in Mecklenburg County. John has many.

In regard to the question as to what county in Virginia did Andrew Rea{1732-1801) live, I cannot find that he ever lived there. In December of 1763 it can be documented that he and his father-in-law Thomas Cochran were in Kent County Delaware and they came to Mecklenburg County NC shortly after that. Other Mecklenburg Rea families were in Kent County and lived for a short while in Lancaster County Pa. before going to N.C.
