Lawrence Lowell Reeve
90, a noted architect and entrepreneur of Manchester by the Sea, MA and Mt. Desert, ME died on October 4th after a long illness. He was a relative of U.S. Presidents Theodore and Franklin Roosevelt and Abbott Lawrence Lowell, President of Harvard University. In a career spanning more than 60 years, Mr. Reeve pursued a variety of professional interests. He was a partner in the architectural firm of Anderson, Beckwith, Haible and Reeve, which designed buildings for commercial clients and educational institutions, both domestically and internationally. Upon retirement from the firm he continued to practice architecture, completing numerous projects for residential clients. Mr. Reeve owned Seamloc Loma-Loom Carpet Company of Sanford, ME for many years. Seamloc was recognized in the industry as a high quality and innovative producer of residential and commercial carpet. In addition, he was a real estate developer who assembled almost 300 acres in Beverly and Danvers, MA for multi-family and recreational use, among other projects. Mr. Reeve was born on April 5th, 1912 in Philadelphia, PA and grew up in Haverford, PA. He received a Bachelor's degree from Harvard University in 1935 and a graduate degree in architecture from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He served in the Navy during World War II. Mr. Reeve was an avid outdoorsman and keen sailor who enjoyed cruising the Maine coast on his sailboat Narcissus. As a young man he was an enthusiastic equestrian. Mr. Reeve is survived by his wife of 64 years, Eleanor (Swift) of Manchester by the Sea, MA; three sons, Abbott of Manchester by the Sea, Stanley of Boston, MA, and Alfred of Wenham, MA; four daughters, Cassandra Stone of Newport, RI, Corinna Waud of Lake Forest, IL, Cintra Reeve of Manchester by the Sea, and Victoria Spaulding of Hamilton, MA; 14 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Katharine Draper of Chadds Ford, PA, Diana Reeve of Haverford, PA, and Leila Bright of Northeast Harbor, ME. He is pre-deceased by his son Lowell who died in 1972 and an older brother, J. Stanley Reeve of Florida. A memorial service will be held on Saturday October 26th at 10:30 a.m. at the First Parish Church, 10 Central Street, MANCHESTER BY THE SEA, MA.
