My great-great grandfather Thomas Andrew Muldowney of Mayo, Connaught, Ireland, migrated to Campbell County, Virginia in
1836. I am seeking any information that would pertain to his life and family in Ireland before he migrated to Virginia.

Hi there,

There are a number of us Muldownies (and Muldowneys) in Scotland. The family originated in Ireland pre 1900, but I don'y have any info beyond that.
My grandfather was Thomas Muldowney, married to Elizabeth Duffy. They had 12 children and lived in Shotts, Lanarkshire where my grandfather was a miner.
I know many of the family emigrated to US and Australia in the 1920s and 1930s.

Hello,

Thanks for reponding to my posting. I don't know anything at all about the Scottish Muldowney but I may be able to help you in your search of their roots in Ireland before leaving for Scotland.

My particular line begins in Co. Mayo, Ireland then to New Jersey, then Philadelphia, PA. Before Mayo they probably lived in Kilkenny. My g. g. grandfather PATRICK MULDOWNEY (probably born in the 1820's) was married twice. I only know the name of one of the wives...MARY HIGGINS. Between the 2 marriages he had 22 children. Your Thomas could be one of them or even a brother or cousin of my Patrick.

Several of us Muldowney descendants are working very hard to find the family origins. We've had good success so far. I'll contact several to see if they recognize your info.

I now know a little bit more of the history of my family. My great grandfather - Patrick Muldowney, was born around 1843 and married an Ann daly. They had 2 children - James and Margaret - before moving to Scotland around 1870. Patrick's father was James Muldowney, who was married to a Mary Love - no dates as yet.

From what I can tell many of the original clan came from Kilkenny although my direct relatives came from Cos Corke and Claires. Am gettin a geneology from a relative that dates some migration from Ireland to US in early 1800's. Most of mine came from northeast but appears to be southern heritage at some point.
