The funeral of Mrs. George Hewes was held at her home in Charleston Monday at 1:30 P.M. Quite a large number of her friends and relatives from Ingalls attended. Lizzie Meries was born in Chandlerville, Ill., March 21st, 1867, and died Nov. 9th 1924 at Charleston, Kansas.

She came to Garfield Co., Kansas, the spring of 1886, and lived with her mother and brother near Ravanna until married to George Hewes Aug. 22, 1888. She leaves to mourn her loss, her husband, Geo. Hewes, W. J. Houk and family, H. L. Seig and family and A. H. Hewes and family of Ingalls, S. V. Hewes and family, Earnest Hewes, Vera Hewes of Charleston, H. C. Hewes and family of Stafford, Mrs. Eda Loyman of Garden City, and Mrs. Inelia Cathers of Topeka: also one sister Mrs. John Revia of Chandlerville, Ill., brothers John Meries of Stafford, Kansas, Henry Meries of Enid, Okla., and Edward Meries of Gorbin, Okla. She had also one son by a former marriage, Earl Layman, who is buried in Garden City, and 3 children buried in Kingman Co. Mrs. Hewes united with the Methodist church of Cunningham, Kan., in 1904 and when she moved back to Garden City she pct her letter in the M. E. church and continued a faithful member till her death. Mothers place can not be filled by any other person and she will be missed by her many friends both of Ingalls and of Charleston. Her body was shipped to Stafford, Kansas where the funeral was held Tuesday at 2 P>M> and her last request was that she be buried at Preston, Kansas. So again death claims a wife who was ever true and a mother who was always loved and cared for by the large family and her many frieds will mourn with the fam8ily this great loss but not with out hope. Our loss is her gain, so we shall wait till the morning of the ressurrection when the graves shall give up their dead and we shall all be changed and caught up to meet the Lord in the air. "So shall we be with the Lord"
