Searching for any info. on a child named Jessie Hood, listed in the 1911 census living with Duncan McGregor, her grandfather in Horton Twp. at this time. Curious as to who her father and mother are listed as, and where she was born. It states she was born in May of 1889 on the census. Any info. pertaining to who her parents were and if she married etc. would be appreciated.

Hi,
I was looking at the 1911 Census that Jessie Hood is found in and noticed it also states she was born Scotland and immigrated in 1892.
Hope this helps a bit,
Jane

Hi
In the 1901 census Janett McGregor sure fits your Jessie
Hood as they both came from Scotland about the same time
and are living with Duncan McGregor. Just a long shot.

How can she be a granddaughter born Scotland when all the McGregor's were born Ontario.
Could it say adopted daughter?
She is not with them on 1901 census.

Found this birth Horton Tsp, Renfrew County

Alfred Hood, 7 Oct 1908, Horton Tsp, lot 4, con 4, mother Jessie Hood, not married, servant, Registration # 043735.

Alfred Hood died 7 Oct 1908, lot 4 conc 4 Horton Tsp, lived a few hours, Dr Mann was attending physician.

There are too many Jessie Hoods on 1891 Scottish census to sort out without knowing her parents.
If she immigrated in 1892 she would have come with her parents.

Could she have taken the name McGregor?
There is a Jessie McGregor, 24, born Holten Tsp, d/o Duncan McGregor and Marion Hart married George Duncan McNabb, 21.
at Arnprior. 31 March 1913.

I cannot find a Duncan/Marion McGregor on census nor a Jessie of the right age.

This likely won't be of much help to you but who knows.

There are two Duncan McGregors in Horton, one born 1827 who married Margaret McInnes and yours born 1833 who eventually married Marion Hart.
Parents are different.
With the Scottish naming system there will be other Duncans in borh families.

On 1891 census there is Marion Hart with her McGregor sons, as a lodger with Duncan, aged 52, and what looks like some of his siblings.

On their marriage rego it says Duncan is a bachelor.

Duncan of above family, b 1869, died 1938.
There is also a Duncan, aged 8, died 1881 of diphtheria with informant Duncan McGregor of Horton.
Also a Mary McGregor, 11, died 1881 of diphtheris with same informant information.
Think they are from Duncan/Margaret.

A Duncan McGregor was born 18 June 1873 at Horton to a Duncan McGregor and Margaret McInnis.

1901 has a Jannet McGregor b 04 May 1890, immigrated 1895 with Duncan and sons as a domestic.

Jessie's headstone says Jessie McGregor 1888-1946, native of Scotland.

Birth
20 July 1870
Duncan Hart, illegitimate, Mother: Marion Barr Hart
Willam Hart, illegitimate, mothe: Marion Barr Hart
Same fellow or twins?

Can you get some obituaries? The old ones had lots of information on them.

Thankyou everyone for all the info. I think I can now probably place who Jessie was. My grandmother told me as a child that her grandfather had sponsored a young woman from Scotland who she always called an aunt. I believe Jessie would have been one of the home children sent out to Canada from the British Isles when young. I always assumed she was a young adult when she arrived, not a child. It amazes me how young she would have been, and probably they adopted her or raised her as their daughter, having none of their own, only boys. Great sleuthing everyone.

The Duncan McGregor who married Margaret McInnes in McNab somewhere between 1858-1869, who were her parents.
Duncans father is listed as John McGregor. Duncan is listed in census as being born circa 1829-1830. Curious to know if this was another Duncan McGregor,or could of been my ancestor Duncan and possibly a first marriage. Would explain his late marriage to Marion Hart.
