Dear Charles

I had replied previously about a year or so to another post.
But in reading this post, I found information that is close.

My grandfather David Carton who lived in nyc and then moved to eastchester or westchester. My mother told me that he father was a plumbing contractor. My mother also said that her father and family had a big fight and never spoke after this fight.

I heard my mother and brothers talk about a cousin Catherine and believe that had a distant relationship with her.

My grandfather is also buried in Calvery cemetary, who died at the age of 46 of a stroke. My mom was thirteen when he died and was born in 1917.

Hope this add to your post and maybe we are distant relatives.

Thanks

Liz

Charlie,

I am going to talk to one of my older Carton cousins. I will ask if she knows our great grandfather's first name. My mother and her 4 brothers are all dead. This cousin's mother is alive still and might have more information. I believe my cousin is on vacation right now, so when i talk to her i let you know.

Thanks

MARGARET CARTON BORN RAMSFORT GOREY COUNTY OF WESFORD IRELAND DAUGHTER OF LUKE CARTON

Posted: 8 Jul 2006 8:37AM GMT
Classification: Query
Surnames: CARTON -MARGARET IRELAND
I have just found a letter written by my grandfather in 1927 explaining about the Chidgey family to his son Harry ,thought you may be interested.

“George John Chidgey came to the colony with his brother Joseph. They arrive out in the year 1832. May 3rd on the Barque Sir William Wallace (Carter Captain) of 262 tons region. They were born at Kent England. George (Father) married Margaret (Mother) Carton, who was born at Ramsfort, Gorey. Country of Wexford Ireland daughter of Luke Carton who was Sargeant (whether of police or army I cannot find out). Father was born in 1815 died 1891.

He was a grand nephew of Francis Grose, who was born at Croydon Crooks,in Surrey, educated for the Military Service ……………..His father was Francis Grose, an Artist and Antiquary, a great acquaintance of Bobby Burns.

N.D. Stanhouse one of fathers most intimate friend,.and also one of the leading scholars of NSW researched for Dad’s antecedents. It said that the first Chidgey that came to England was an officer in the Army of William the Conqueror when whey invaded England, so I suppose we sprang originally from the French.

P.N George & Joseph Chitty – an error

ANY INFORMATION WOULD BE HELPFUL
