Ryman

My ancient ancestor came with Count Swartzenberg to the (now) Czech Republic about 1648. He was a Ryman (Rymann) and was the 'forest manager' for the Count. He settled in Bohemia, married and had a family. I am a descendent of that man. Does any of this go along with your family?

Do you know where the Ryman family originated in Switzerland?

Thanks

Barb

The information I have doesn't go back that far so I can't say if it's the same or not. Info shared by Linda Leavitt has the original spelling as Rheiman and/or Reymann and coming from either lower Germany or upper Switzerland.
Don't know what city. Does your info relate to Johannes Rheiman?
Thanks, Mike

Ryman

All the info I have is what I got from a distant relative in the CZ. She spelled it Ryman or Rymann or Rayman. (all three ways)

I wrote the Immigrant Society in California and they looked up all the Rymans now in Switzerland. Came up with some in Zurich and, more interesting, some in a little town called Etzgen, which is about 1/2 mile from Germany. I'm not sure what to do now, as I don't have enough info to ask an intelligent question.

I know it's tough....especially with so many different spellings.
I'm trying to find out when Johannes Rheiman (or John Ryman depending on where you look) came into the US and about when, My best guess is sometime in the mid 1700's from Holland. Most of the European immigrants came from the port at Rotterdam.
Wish I knew more about the Switz/German connection but if I can nail this much down I'll be happy!
Good hunting!!

I have a Johann Ryman (Reimann) in my tree. He was listed as John on Immigration records, and Johann by family. Family is originally Reimann, but listed in Census as Reiman, Reiman, Rymond and Ryman. He came from Germany in 1845 on USS Harriet and docked in Galveston Texas. He is also burried in Matagorda Texas. If this connects in anyway let me know. I have much more info on the family.

Thanks for the information but they are not the same. The Johann I'm tracking came from Germany or Switzerland about 100 years earlier and settled in Pennsylvania before coming to Virginia. Thanks anyway!

I believe that we are from the same family line. Your information matches mine on the Peter Reimann. I have seen the sailing manifest of the boat he came over on in Galveston, Texas. He would be my great grandfather.
Would love to hear from you. Mary Ruth (Ryman) Spickler

Heather-

I see where we have something in common. My great grandfather - Peter Reimann and wife Catherine, with their two sons JOHAN -age 19 - and son Balthaser, came from Rappach, province of Nassau, on the USS Harriet leaving Antwerp Oct 31, l845, and landed in Galveston, Texas around January 15, l846.

If we are interested in the same please let me hear from you.

I have also been trying to track the Rymann family. I can't seem to find much info on the name. I don't even have any information except for a name. My great-grandmother's name was Sophie Rymann. She married Paul Borutta. I'm not sure where they were born, but my grandmother lived in Germany and Austria. If anyone has any further iformation or recognizes either of these names, I would be so glad to hear from you.

My Rymans moved to the Czech Republic about 1848, so I'm operating on rumor alone. I did a telephone book search through the internet and came up with 3 Rymans in Switzerland, but I couldn't find the towns. I have been busy on other branches of the family and have never gotten back.

Let me know if you find out anything.....ditto me.
