I'm searching for ancestors from the families of Muschitz and Lerche who would have been living in Tyrol and Dragatusch, Austria in the 1840's.

I have just begun the process of seeking the path of my ancestors. All I know is that my grandfather left Austria and arrived in America as an infant. I do not know what his name was prior to his arrival - it was altered by immigration officials to the present, "Mugits."

My grandfather's death card, George Muschitz, born January 16, 1842, in Dragatusch, Austria, died October 24, 1929, in Westphalia, Iowa (USA), when I was 2. My mother, Matilda, was his youngest child of 13. Mary, his wife, born in Iowa, died in 1917. George is listed as a Pioneer in Shelby County, Iowa. The name was changed to Musich in 1950. Harlan,Iowa, county records depositary, is full of Musich's. All I know is George fled Austria under a load of hay to escape army draft, about 1860 maybe. I am 83.

ask for the ancestors of Georg at diocesan-archive in Ljubljana - you can write in english. think they must find him in their files as you have his birthdate and - place:

Hi, I feel that we are related. My grand mother was born in Dragatus on Jan 25 1866. Her father was Peter Mushizh born there on April 1814. I have records for 8 children and my grandmother is the youngest. I would like to search for census reciords for George Musich. Could you give me a city and county where he was in a census year.

I have been to Dragstus and I think that it is like a district. I felt that it was quite small and we should be related. If you would respond to my regular email I would appreciate it. Thank you

Ruth, we are related. George was my great, great grandfather. His youngest daughter, Theresa (married Adolph Schmitz), was my great grandmother on my mom's side. I'm 44, but have some very vivid memories of visiting with great-grandma Theresa, before she passed away in 1979. I also have Kenkel ancestors on my dad's side (Wingert).
