I'm from Italy and my grandmother (mum's mum) surname was CANE'. I've salways been told this was a Spanish or Bulgarian surname originally from Jewish origins. I've bben looking for news from everywhere, but everything seems so difficult...if you've got this surname and know anything, anywhere in the world, please let me know. I'll answer to anyone.
See you Claudia

Any connections?

If the Shannon River is your ancestral home, then the Cain DNA project at www.familytreedna.com probably has a number of your kinfolk. One O'Cathain/Cain/Cane/Kane/Keane sept held O'Cathain's Castle on the isle of Iniscatha. They are the 2nd biggest group in the Cain DNA project.

Hi Peter

I'm also in Glamorgan (just outside Cardiff) and trace my Canes back to Portsmouth (via Limehouse, London, Portsmouth and back to Henry Cane b1803 in Dartmouth, son of Henry Cane and Elizabeth Soper) - any link?

All the best

Quite right about the different spellings. Any of your cousins still living along the Shannon River would now be Keane.Several of them are in the Cain DNA project at www.familytreedna.com/public/Cain-Caine.
