Surnames: Davitt
My grandmother Bridget Sarah Davitt was born ( #6 of 8) in Ballina (Ardnaree?) on 7 July 1888. Her father was called Anthony Davitt and her mother was called Margaret Carroll. They had a farm on the outskirts of Ballina.

Any information you can provide that would fill in the blank spaces woud be helpful.

I believe that Bridgett was my grandmother's sister. My grand mother was Mary Katherine Davitt born to Margaret Carroll and Anthony Davitt in Ballina, Co Mayo Ireland. I believe that Bridgett came to the USA in 1966 and was at my wedding. Did she live in Scotland?
Sincerely,
Rita Eastman

I am researching the Carrolls of Ardnaree and have a Margaret Carroll, married to Anthony Davitt/Devitt,but I only have the names of 6 children, John, James, Anthony, Thereasa, Bridget and Mary-Kate. I have the feeling we are talking about the same family. I would be happy to hear from you.

yes there was a Margaret Davitt. She was my great grandmother. She had a son (Patrick Joseph Hennigan). Margaret immigrated to New York around 1905 to stay with her sister Catherine Rogan. Her son was raised by Margaret Carroll (his grandmother) and then his Aunt Teresa. Margaret Davitt died in Philadelphia in 1907 at 26, she is buried with Anthony Rogan and Gertrude Greaves. Do those names ring a bell? My grandfather Patrick Hennigan's father died when he was a month old (John Hennigan).

Looking for information on Pte. Patrick Hennigan, DCM., Irish Guards, World War 1. Born at the Quay, Ballina, and raised by the Monaghan family, his grandfather. Father Henry, Mother, Timlin. Some relations from Missouri visited Ballina, in the 'eighties. I understand they have Patrick's medals plus photographs of him.
