Dear All, Looking for the ancestry of my gggrandmother whose name was Heatha Jane Gassett (b. 1826, d. 1910 in Necessity Texas). She married John W. Osteen in Crawford Co., Georgia in Dec., 1843. At this point, I do not know her siblings. Possibly, her parents were William and Jane but I have not verified this.
Thank you,
Flynn

Here is my take on Heatha Jane --

She is believed to have been the daughter of William Gassett and Jane Dean.

She married John W. Osteen in Crawford County, Georgia on December 24, 1843. John is believed to have been the son of Thomas Osteen who was a relatively close neighbor of William Gassett in Talbot County, Georgia in 1840. He was a coach maker.

John and Heatha Jane named their first son Thomas William, almost certainly for his grandparents, Thomas Osteen and William Gassett.

They lived in Gadsden County, Florida in 1850 and had two young wheelwrights in their household that year -- Isaac Osteen, who may have been John's brother, and Cornelius Bland, the brother-in-law of Charles M. Gassett, a proven son of William Gassett.

They lived in Bainbridge in Decater County, Georgia in 1860. Nearby lived a younger Thomas Osteen who was also a coach maker.

They lived in Hopkins County, Texas in 1870.

She lived with her son Thomas in Lee County, Texas in 1880. She was enumerated in the census that year as H. Jane Ostun and was said to be a widow.

She lived with her daughter Isabella Edwards and her husband Bob in Milam County, Texas in 1900.

Thank you for all your info. I added Dean to the name of Jane Dean. I had the fathe of john W. Osteen as John W. Osteen Sr. but you say his name was Thomas.

Thank you,

I'm not an Osteen researcher -- it's certainly posible that the Thomas Osteen who lived near William Gassett in Talbot County in 1840 was your John W. Osteen's uncle and not his father as I assumed.
