Hi,

My ggrandmother was Anne O'Hehir born in Knock, Galway about 1876. She was the daughter of Michael O'Hehir and Margaret Conroy.

Anne married Edmund Sullivan of Lissaguraun, Galway County, Ireland about 1896 and had eleven children, most of them born in Moycullen.

I would love to know more about her parents and siblings.

Thanks,
Marybeth Dixon

Hi Marybeth,
Have you visited the Irishmcgoff.com website? If not, please check it out. Most Hehirs appear to have Clare or Limerick roots, but the famine and limited landholdings caused many to move on. Post whatever info you have, including all birth dates, even approximate, emigration dates, arrival points, etc. Another site to visit is clarelibrary.ie. Check the genealogy, people and places listings. I haven't found anything to match it in other counties, and there is an abundance of information on the Hehir name. Good luck!

Bill,
While going through some old prayer cards I came across one for a Simon O'Hare. I don't know where he fits into the picture but I believe he was a cousin of my grandmothers. It seems some spelled the name Hehir, some O'Hare and some O'Haire. Thought you might have a link to this name. He died in 1940

The bane of this research is the Hehir variants. I haven't come across Simon O'Hare before, but every new name is a possible link. I've emailed a group that publishes info on Irish first names as I've come across the name, Sinon, several times on genealogy sites. I want to know if it's a variant of Simon.

Great to hear from you,
Bill

Thanks for your help with Sinon/Senan. I never received a reponse from the Irish Names page I queried, so your info was very helpful.
Regards, Bill O'Hare

I am not sure about a connection, but Moycullen isn't large, I don't believe, so perhpas there is. I'll check with my family to se if they know the name Higgins and get back in touch.

Do you happen to know more about your Ann Hehir's family in Camus?

My 2nd great grandmother, Mary Hare/O'Hare, was from that area -- we have family letters from 1912 until about 1940 addressed from Camus and nearby Illeny. Mary Hare married Patrick Conneely, and their children (John, Peter, Mary, Bridget, Patrick and Martin) were born in the 1880's. Do you think there's a connection?
