Dear Elsie: I was browsing thru Ancestry.com and came across your message board # 49 of sept. 28-2000. I am a descendant from a Kirton from Barbados. My grandfather Martin Delacey Kirton was born in Barbados the 18 of jan. 1889. As I was told he migrated to Trinidad and then travelled to Panama where he worked for the US Gov, Panama canal Co. until his retirement. He died the 29 of nov. 1960. He was a tailor by profession and was a member of the Barbadian Society in Panama. I was in Barbados seeking some information in 1965 but I guess my tourist ambitions were greater than the investigative mood. Martin married Jessie Isabela Crooks from Trinidad here in Panama and she also worked for the Co. in the bakery. They produced three daughters, all still alive and living in Panama....Enid,my mother and Evelyn and helena, my aunts. My mother was born in 1915.
I also visited Trinidad Tobago where I met my grandmothers relatives...sister, brother, aunts, cousins, etc. (They mostly were Crooks-Yates and Aqui). I tried thru the net also to inquire but failed nevertheless, I came across a Wayne Kirton from Barbados residing in Florida which I have not contacted as yet.(address follows)

Thank you for the reply. You can access records from Barbados by going to the Mormon site-familysearch.com

I was in Barbados in December and visited the National Archives and did some research.
Good luck!

Hi, My Great Grandfather Joseph Kirton was born in Barbados anywhere from around 1850 - 1870. I'm told he travelled to Jamaica to 'find his fortune' and together with Mary Anglin gave birth to my Grandfather Philip Kirton b.1916.

do you have any info on Joseph Kirton ?

Regards
Otis
