I just stumbled across your message - this sounds like my family story. My grandfather was Cloyd Clifton Carloye from Grapevine, TX. His ancestors came to TX via covered wagon which was attacked by Comanche Indians (as I heard the story). Plesae email me.

I've heard the same story re the Comanches
only that there was a brother and sister
and that the Comanches named them Carloy.

Hi, Kerry. You responded to Lisa Carloye's message about O.B. Carloy and Ona Mae Carloy; I'm Lisa's mother, and just started looking at this message board. My husband, Jack Carloye, is the son of Lon and Roxie Carloye, and we are interested in finding out about Carloye relatives, especially about the Comanche Indian stories. Do you know any details of the names and eras of the children that were reportedly taken and named Carloy by the Comanches? Can you tell me of any other living Carloye or Carloy relatives living now?

Hi,
My name is Betty Chambers, my Mother was Lucille Carloy and George and Pearl Carloy were her parents. My brothers and sister are trying to research that side of the family, there is very little information. I have lots of pictures of Lon and the others that were my Mom's. We've heard the Indian story too but don't know the true story. Any info would be great....

Kerry,
Are you Bubby's son? He was very close to my Mom, she really like him....wasn't sure. We're trying to trace our roots, coming up a little short. Any info welcome!

Thank you for your reply. What relation to Lon was your mother and her parents? We don't have any photos of Lon, who is my husband's grandfather. (My husband is Jack Cloyd Carloye, a grandchild of Lon and Roxie, son of Cloyd Clifton Carloye). We don't know anything about Lon's parents, and very little about Lon's wife Roxie. Jack thinks Roxie's maiden name was Thompson and that she grew up on an Indian reservation, probaby Comanche, but that isn't necessarily correct. Jack grew up in Dallas and as a child visited the Carloye grandparents and those aunts, in Grapevine, rather often, but Jack went into the army at age 17 and then to college, by which time Cloyd had left the family and Jack no longer had contact with him or any of the other Carloyes beyond his own mother and sister.

We would be very interested to see copies of photos of Lon and get any info you have about him and Roxie and any others in those families.

Hi!!
Great to hear back. We're still figuring out who's who but I do have pictures of Lon. I'll work on scanning those for you. I remember hearing about "Uncle Lon" but that was before my time. My older brother in Gainesville know quite a bit about this, I"ll get with him and figure it out. We're very interested in this side of the family, its nice to find someone else who's looking. Talk to you soon

Thank you! I'm eager to see photos of Lon, and will appreciate very much your efforts in getting them scanned to me. And then any more info will be great, too.
