My grandfather, George Edward Dexheimer, born in central Wisconsin, 1880's had a brother, Fred. Fred married Ida, and had two daughters. Some time ago, after WW II Fred and Ida moved to Califirnia with their daughters Charolotte and ????. I suspect most if not all of these are deceased by now, as my dad is 82 at this time. His cousins may be living, but we have lost touch with them long ago. It sounds like a strange coincidence that these families would have similar names of Phillip, Fred, Edward, George.

Your family line seems very similiar to mine, except I have them
being born in the 1860s not the 1880s. I have John Henry DEXHEIMER
and ELIZABETH HENGEN with the following children:

Charles, John, George, Elizabeth, Frederick, William, Caroline, Edward, Margarette,
John, Alfred, Robert, Martha and Walter.

Is this the same family as yours?

Douglas--I also have a George Edward Dexheimer b. Nov. 15, 1879 [but in Chicago] on my tree with two brothers :Frederick Edwin and Harry and one sister : Louise [Lulu] A.
From what I have sometime after the 1930 Census Frederick Edwin and his wife Ada Marie moved to California with their two daughters, Charlotta G. and Bernice [?] .
Were your Great Grandparents Edward Adam Dexheimer and Anna A. Reinmuth?
If any of this rings a bell you can e-mail me at: Lilly87cut@aol.com Put Dexheimer in the subject area so I don't delete. Karen

Surnames: Dexheimer,
I had the name of my Great Grandfather as Edward Albert Dexheimer, not Edward Adam.
I beleive Edward Albert Dexheimer had a wife, Anna Reinmuth, Born 5May1859, died 1941.
My Grandfather, George Edward Dexheimer, had two Aunts, Emma Fries, and Martha Stevens, and an Uncle, Phillip Dexheimer.
My great Uncle Fred, and his wife Ada, had two daughters, Charlotte and Bernice. They all moved to the west coast.
I've lost touch with Charolotte and Bernice. One of them married a fellow named Sam Steelsmith.
It looks like we have a common ancestor back there somewhere. Let me know any further information on any of these ancestors Thanks Douglas Roger Dexheimer whistles73@earthlink.net

Douglas--We are definitely talking about the same family. "Great" Aunt Martha Dexheimer Stevens [ I always knew of her as "Great Aunt Martha ", my grandmother's aunt ]is the clincher, but you are missing some siblings. I'll e-mail you at your e-mail address. Karen

I am Douglas Roger Dexheimer. Our branch of the Dexheimer family immigrated from Darmstadt, Hesse, Germany in the 1850's. Adam and Katharina are now resting in Graceland Cemetery, in Chicago. They had a number of children, Edward Adam, Louise, Philip, Martin, Bertha, and Anna. All children were born in Chicago.
Seeking history on Edward Adam Dexheimer, who married Anna Reinmuth and raised a family in Chicago, not Wisconsin as previously beleived. Possibly Edward Adam/Albert Dexheimer, a barber, went west to seek his fortune in the Gold Rush. Any connections will be most appreciated.
Please respond by e-mail.

I was wrong, both my great uncle Fred Edward Dexheimer, and my Grandfather, George Edward Dexheimer were born in Chicago, Illinois, not Wisconsin as I erroneously reported. Sorry for the confusion.
George and Fred were sons of Edward Adam Dexheimer, who was born in Chicago, and Anna Reinmuth Dexheimer who was born in Bavaria. Her parents Christoph and Emilie Reinmuth immigrated eventually to Chicago after stopping in Virginia.

I am afraid that there is no direct link between the Adam Dexheimer family in Chicago, and a very similar family in Wisconsin. Some of the same christian names show up both places, so there may be a link far back in the ancestry of both branches. I have no details beyond the fact that they came from Darmstadt, Hesse according to the Census records.
