Hi!
I am also a great-great-grandson of Michael Goeden Sr. Michael Jr. was my great-grandfather John the Baptist Goeden's brother. Have been doing research for the last two years. Frank's family ended up in Racine, Peter's in Green Bay, and August's in Cedarburg. All I got was census records from 1920 and 1930 for these guys-check your local library. I was in Port Washington and West Bend last summer and went to all the old farms and cemetaries. Very interesting family-certainly prolific! I have a lot of general info-any questions in particular? The library in West Bend has a Goeden Family genealogy book in reference section. The Washington County HIstorical Society has a different genealogy volume which is great for dates and people. Any way I can be of help let me know! David Flieger Osseo, Wisconsin

thanks david i wanted to know of those brothers deaths dates so i can look them up in newspapers and print them so i can put them together for my dad and also another relative nearby wants one of my copies as i finish putting them together i dont come to the library every day as i work on the 3rd shift in downtown milwaukee so sometimes i get tired from work but anyway i was in fond du lac yesterday to find a sister that was married to a herbert buboltz. found her death certificate so now its about 3 mystery sisters to go and those brothers. i intend to go to kenosha sometime soon to look up franks vital records if any. also i know theres supposed to be 18 kids but i never got all the names. the names that i ve got are angeline (she s buried with her mom in port cemetery along with 2 sisters and their husbands), peter, 2 christines, susannem, michael, irmina (ermine), mariam rosam (rose),mariam margaretha, august, johannes the baptist, johannes (john), helen (mrs herbert buboltz), joseph, anna(mrs larry larson), i think i miss one more but i forgot to bring my notes with me but i dont have everyone down yet my dad and i think a kid died in infancy or childhood but who?? i know they had a sister named margaret she s one of the older sisters that michael had. 2 other sisters that have margaret in their names were younger than mike so theres another margaret in the name and i hopefully think that its the one that married paul lippert as stated in helen s obit. i have been to west bend library and just found that book u mentioned. also i ve gone over the books of the churches thats how i got the kids but that older margaret is not in those books but shes listed on some of the kids birth certificates as a sibling. august doesnt have an original birth cert. but he had john (not yours the other john) to vertify for him to the officals so the officals could make one for him. it was made in 1942. i ve got rose s and ermine, jr. s marriages here in port. anna s vital records are partial here in port too just that her husband died and she s listed as the wife of larry larson. rose married peter rinn and ermine, jr. married walter stelling. i got just about every one's obit. i havent found anna s yet. there s a new place in port that is a historical society and their place is in the new building called harbor square next to the best western inn and they have records from the local churches and funeral homes. so sometime maybe today i will go back there again to see if i can obtain any more info on anna or august and oh now i remember, charles is the other kid that i missed. got his obit too. seems that most of the goedens in the past were very well known in their hometowns. i d appreciate any info u can give to me as where i might find the dates of those brothers died. also do u know if anyone in the goeden family especially it should be the 1 st son would have any documents like a bible with names written on them etc.?? let me know about anything thanks again this is the largest family i ve come upon in my family tree. my other grandpa (still alive) came from a family of 11 kids and his mom came from a family of 14 kids in norway. they were raised in black river falls area. was there with grandpa last summer. but i ve got a descendant of that family doing that work for me so it was easier for me but no one was doing the goedens so it was hard but i ve had fun doing this. sorry to make this so long but again i appreciate any of your help on this goeden family tree. dont know when i could come back to the library as i m too busy next week with appts. so u can write to me if u like. thanks again.

Hi,
I can't help you on the death dates you were looking for. Did Frank die in Kenosha? His wife and kids were on the 1930 census in Racine. Also, I am not really sure if Peter ended up in Green Bay. He married Clara Rising, but the census says Hattie-I don't know what other Peter it could be though. Michael had an older sister named Margaret born May 5, 1862 and died 8 years later? I can't remember my source on that off hand. Also, a son Peter died in 1861 at 18 months of age-this is pre-Margareta Christina who was born 2/13/1861 and died in childhood. All the other siblings look right. My great-uncle Herbert Goeden, son of John the Baptist, lived with Helen and Herb Buboltz at the farm in Rosendale form the time he was 10 on. He his listed as "servant" on the census. I'm thinking that Herb and Helen had no children, so they needed the help and John had too many mouths to feed? Herb must have inherited the farm. When my family still lived in Milwaukee, we used to go visit him and his family pretty regularly. His son Howie still lives there. That slim Goeden book from the library in West Bend does have several errors. The big ones are that the tombstones at St. Peter's he assumes are John's kids, are not. They are some of the infant kids of Matthias and Margaretha, Michael Sr.'s brother. The John, brother of Michael Sr., is buried there next to his mother and he never married (1840-1863). Most Goeden genealogy lists a John Goeden with a bunch of kids, but this is the son of Michael Goeden, born in 1807, who moved to Nebraska from Appleton and Menomonie Falls. John moved back to Appleton because his wife's family was from that area.
Hope this helps somewhat. Not sure when I would get around to a letter, so I figured I would message at least. David

david i had just finished typing you a new message but somehow it got erased so i have to type it over again! your notes of margaret doesnt match my notes as the first child, angeline was born on feb. 26th, 1860. it was confirmed on her death obit. so the first peter that u found to be 18 months old when he died in 1861 cant be right unless he s angeline s twin?! margaret who was born on may 5th, 1862 as stated by u cant fit in my notes as peter was born on feb. 18th, 1862. unless the yr, was a typo if it was supposed be in 1863 then it ll work into my notes. so it looks like somebody messed up the records! helen and herbert buboltz do not have any kids. also got john the baptists and joe s death obits from milwaukee library. cant find frank in kenosha but a woman told me that at one time racine was part of kenosha til they split it up into racine. so maybe frank was living in kenosha and then at his death it s listed under racine county. i will be back in milwaukee courthouse on wed jan. 29th after work and also on feb. 14th i will be in madison to look up the vital records. hope to find more records to show proof of their existing lives. looks like john b. got married 3 times!! his first wife josephine schnepf died in 1914 and then in 1917 he remarried to a woman named martha troyanowski (her 2nd marriage, too). her maiden name was wilke. then on john b. s obit it listed ida , nee knopp as his wife! peter did marry clara rising on nov. 21, 1888. peter lived in green bay but did clara moved there with him i dont know. i will have to someday go to green bay to check it out and also to roscommon, mich. to check out that sister named mrs. paul lippert. thanks for your notes! i appreciate it! let me know if u would like to get the birthdates of those kids from my notes some also have marriages and death dates too. i now know for a fact that august has died sometime between 1943 and 1948. so i will keep looking for his death record, it has to be recorded somewhere!! thanks for your help and please give me any more notes or ideas or whatever u can find on those kids. til next time. laura

Yes, you are right about that Margaret. I got her confused with Christina born 2/13/1861. I thought I came across something I neglected to document that her name was Christina Margaretha. I am fairly sure about that Peter-the Holy Trinity death records state he was 1 year and 6 months old, son of Michael and Ermine (Bonjon) Goeden and that he died in 1861, but it doesn't have a date.Burial was at St. Peter's cemetery. There is no birth record, but he could easily be a twin of Angeline. Peter in Green Bay had a wife named Hattie according to census records, but maybe it's a different wife or a nickname. Frank's family was living in Racine city without him in 1930. He must have died or ran off. Racine and Kenosha were originally one county. I did not know that my great-grandfather John B. was married to an Ida! I wonder if that house was passed on to my grandfather Edgar who lived there in the late 1940's or early 50's on. Why else would he have gone there. Also, I see John B. had a habit of farming out his kids, so maybe Ed went to live with them at some point. If you could send me a copy of his and Joseph's obituaries that would be great. I am not big on owning the actual vital records, but I love obituaries or anything that tells what they were like as people.
Later, David
