Hi Jim tried to email you, wouldn't go through...I talked to my mom. Unfortunately Higa is a common name in Okinawa. I did not know that. She was wondering if you know what part of Okinawa she lived in. She wrote down your moms name and will ask my Grandfather when she talks to him next! Sorry, but so far that's the best I can do. Good luck. I will be in touch. Terri

I am looking for my father's cousin name Jinki Higa in Hilo, Hawaii. Are you related to him? My father was Zenjiro Higa born on Maui. His parents came from Ishado, Nakagusuku, Okinawa.

Terri

Its hard to say. I have had no luck in looking for relatives to my mother, and I don't know the names of any relatives other than that of my half sister. From what I understand thus far, Higa is an incredibly popular name, so I guess my best answer is maybe. My mother is originally from Naha City. Other than that, I know very little! Sorry and good luck!

I was just looking through my father's army album and came across a picture of a young woman and young boy standing on a road, probably in Okinawa. The caption says Sueko, although I don't know how common that name is. My father was stationed in Okinawa during part of the Korean War. I have no other details as he died young and without extended family that was known to me.

My father met Sueko (or suyeko) sometime in the late 60's/early 70's because I was born in 72... but she was at least 8 years older than he and had been married at least once before. I know she had a brother, but no sons older than me. The only older sibling was a sister from a previous marriage. Is there a date to the picture at all? Is there anyone to ask about the picture? Thanks for your help!

I'll ask my mother if she has any more details. have you found Sueko to be a common name in Okinawa? Do you have a picture of her? I could have my husband try to scan my father's picture. I've tried without success to contact any of his army buddies.
