In parts of East Clare and North Tipperary Mannix was used interchangably with Minogue as an anglicized form of the old Irish name O'Muineog. I've also learned that Mannixes in County Cork derived from Manahan or O'Manahan, also in reference to Monks.

my grandfather, michael manyx, his brothers patrick and john emigrated to the usa from county clare ireland in the late 1850's. michael and patrick settled in Illinois, while john stayed in the pennsylvania. michael was born may 01, 1846, patrick in 1839. i do not know anything about john. i am searching for descendants of john manyx, frequently spelled mannix, manix or other ways.

My grandfather, Dennis Francis Mannix, b1894;in Clare; d 1986 in NJ. Fought for citizenship in WWI as US soldier. Changed name from Minogue when arrived in US. Simon Minogue family in Cork related.
Dennis was NYC firefighter. Married Mary Higgens (of NJ) in 20's. Children are James (CA), Dennis (NY), Daniel(AZ), Mary(NJ), Margaret(CA; d1994), Frances(NJ), Kathleen(NJ; d1992?). Margaret was my mother.

I met Jeff Manix At the Marysville Carnival in 1966 or 67. He said that he was from Yardley, Pa. At the time he was 14 or15 years old. He may be your cousin. I never saw him again. I hope this little bit of info helps you.

I'm wondering if your Minogues were from "my" part of Clare (very close to Galway). My ggggrandmother and most of her children came to CT in the 1880s'. Settling in Middletown. Later, some moved to Brooklyn (to relatives??). She was Mary Nolan Minogue, married to John Minogue. Children: (not in order of birth) John, Catherine, Hanora, Margaret, Annie, Bridget, ?? (Can't remember just now...)

I have been sesarching for my Great Grandmothers family. I believe the came from Galway. Her name was Annie MINOGUE but on some of her children's certificates it has her name as MINAHAN. After reading your post it seems obvious that they are the same name only spelt differently..Where did you find the info re the same names? One of my ancestors, John Manix, came from Ireland in the 1850's and settled in Easton Pennsylvania. I belive he came from Galway Ireland. Could he be a relation.
