My grandfather, Francis (Frank) Pye as born incounty Rosscommon year 1860 in what is now called "Southern Ireland." In 1880 he moved to Philadelphia, UISA, married and had 11 children. He died in 1900. Family stories state that the Pye's were not Irish, but English, having moved to Ireland in the 17th or 18th century. Lately I have seen reports that the name Pye is Scottish. Does anyone have definite information of the family's origins etc. Thank you!

Dear Mr. Pye,

I was fascinated to see your message! My Grandmother was Caroline Pye and I have extensive information on our branch of the Pye Family. My Great Grandfather was Thomas Elijah Pye and he was a Sea Captain of a windjammer out of Newfoundland, as was his father before him. My best information says they were originally from England but my information may not go back as far as yours. If you would like me to look back through my stack of papers, let me know. It would be my pleasure as I am a genealogy nut! I would also appreciate any info you have on the Pye family that you would be willing to part with! Sorry, I just went and had a look at my papers and from what I could find very quickly, they were from Yorkshire England originally. As I said, My Great-Great Grandfather was a sea captain and how many generations before that they had come to Canada, I don't know. I know he had a brother who went to the States to build boats in Mass. I think.
Well, I could go on forever but I won't. Let me know if I may be able to help further.
Sincerely,
Carolin Fox-mayes

Carolin, I'm interested to know if you have any connection to my Pye's.
I have a Sarah Pye, father Thomas who married a Joseph Bickley in Liverpool, England in 1841. Sarah was born about 1820 in Nantwich, Chesire, Eng. I can't connect her. Sarah and Joseph had 4 daughters in Liverpool, 2 dying before they came to Australia in 1852. Joseph was a Mariner.

Hi Lyn,
Good to hear from you...I am in Canada and always amazed to hear from Pyes all over the world!
The farthest back I can go is my great great grandfather, who was Skipper Thomas Pye but I have been working on both sides of my family history as well as my husband's family, so I haven't done a lot of Pye research lately. There is a great website for you to try that is run by the Mormon Church. I am not a member but you don't need to be. The URL is http://www.familysearch.org
Try there and see what you can find. Another really great lady I met on line is Willette Pye Wood. she is in the States and her father was a professional genealogist and she is a wealth of information on the Pye family. I think she has a couple of messages posted on this website so see if you can't contact her. As you know, we are just heading into summer here and lots of gardening chores to do but hopefully, we will have a few rainy days and I will be able to see what I can find for you. Will be in touch soon. Regards, Carolin
