I don't think I can help you with your
husband's grandmother, but it's possible
his grandfather is Herman Schaekel, son of
William Schaekel and Eleanore Drager? If so,
Herman was first cousin to my grandmother
Amelia Schaekel. Let me know if it's true.
Tina.

My husbands grandfather was Herman William
Schaekel Sr. His Father was William Henry
Schaekel,born 3-9-1867, he married Elenore
Droege. His birthplace was P.R. Westfalen,
Minden, Germany. His father was Henry F.
Schaekel. We are doing research into the
Schaekel's as well. We think the Schaekel's
came to the U.S. sometime in the 1880's or
1890's. We're not sure. Any information you
could provide would be greatly appreciated.
We were curious if there was a point of
origin in Germany where all the Schaekel's
were from, or if they were scattered about.
Thank-you for answering my message. Our
address is schaekel@premaonline.com

We are definitely related then! Droege was
changed to Drager at some point, and that's
what was on my cousin's chart when I copied
it into mine. I don't have much in the way
of dates yet for most of my people and I need
to verify a few of them, but when I get
things cleaned up a little more, I'll send
you what I have. Meanwhile, I'll ask my mom
and her sisters what they might know about
your husband's grandma. Also, I live only a
few miles from Wanamaker. If you need me to
look up something at a cemetery, let me know.
I may not be able to get to it for a while,
but I'll put it on my list and try to help.
If you have any other info on the Schaekels,
I'd appreciate a copy of it.
Tina

Hi Christy. Amelia (Schaekel) Deerberg was my grandmother. She's buried at Acton Cemetery and died 5/22/1982. Are you related? Do you have any information you can share?

The problem with everything is Amelia Schakel would have been born about the time of Anton Jr. and I think that would have been around 1873.I'm still not sure there isn't a connection. The spelling of the name seems to have changed at least once and probably twice since coming to the U.S. They seemed to have come before 1870 from what Grandpa called Prussia (somewhere in Germany, just not sure of the exacts???????) A couple of us have been trying to link all the Schaekels around Wanamaker and the Southside but to no avail!!!!!! maybe someday we'll put it all together..........

I am part of the German branch of Schaekel ancestry - my grandfather was Hermann Schaekel, grandmother Christine, of Frille near Minden/Westphalen.
A cousin of our grandfather or great-grandfather emigrated to the US and settled in Cincinnati, OH. Walter and Flora Schaekel lived there until the late 1970s. Their sons - Jack and Carl - lived in California and Wyoming at the time.

Please email me, Brigitte, if you're interested in comparing notes. I don't have much information on relatives while they still lived in Germany and would like to get in touch with those who still live there. My email address is hiltont@ameritech.net. Thanks.
