Serritellas in Chicago

My great grandparents immigrated to Chicago around 1880 from Ricialano, Italy. My great grandfather's name was Sebastiano Serritella and he and his wife settled on the near south side of Chicago. My grandfather, Paul Serritella, was the youngest of three children and the only one born in the U.S. The oldest was Rocco Serritella, who never married, and there was a sister, whom I believed was named Rosa who married a Parrillo. My grandfather married Lena Fiume in 1907 in Melrose Park, IL and they lived there the rest of their lives, raising their four children there. Their oldest son was Ben, my father, and he was born in 1908, next came Florence in 1910, Russell in 1915, and Robert in 1921.

My grandfather immigrated from Ricigliano, Italy around 1888 when he was nine. His parents were Antonio Serritella and Angelina Chiaravallo. My grandfather had many brothers and sisters all of which I know except for brothers Ralph and Vito. Most of our family resides in New Jersey, but in doing research I found a lot of Serritellas in Illinois and I'm wondering if these families are related to Ralph and Vito Serritella of Ricigliano who were brothers to Vincenzo, Joseph, Daniel, Concetta, Catherine and Rose.

I am not sure if my grandfather's sister was named Rose, but she did marry a Parillo. She had at least two sons, Frank and Joe. My father was very close to Joe. Joe Parillo was born on May 20, 1908 and died in Sept., 1975. Frank lived in CA, but I don't know where. Rose (?) also had a daughter who married a man named Letizia. The Letizias lived in Melrose Park, IL.

Dear Jim,

I am doing research from the Chicago area on the Parrilli/Parrillo family. I have found a Donato Serritella who was a Godparent for Christopher Parrilli son of Lucy and Donato Parrilli. I also have a Antonia Serritella who was Godmother to Henry Parrilli. Christopher and Henry were baptised at Santa Maria Incoranta church in Chicago. Please contact me for further information if you think there may be some relation. I am not sure if the Serritella's were just friends or family?
